Just another new member

Not new to diesel or to truck or to towing..........but this is the first time I am "reviewing" the duramax seriously for purchase.

I drove a few 04 and 05 duramax for few hundred miles for towing, and did not like them (went with Ford then). Drove an 08 Duramax on a short test run; and honeslty thought I was in a BMW. Drove THREE 08 SuperDuty's and did not like; it was no improvement over my 06 SuperDuty (except for the new fancy tow mirrors).

My concern with the new trucks is the DPF monster; but I have not found anyone (Duramax peeps) with problems with them just yet. One friend has an 08 with 5,000 miles and the other friend a 07.5 with DPF and 28,000 miles with zero problems. I have nearly a hundred friends with 08 SuperDuty and they for the most part are not happy - half of those are just upset with poor MPG, the other half add to that the shop repairs/breakdowns etc.

The number one issue with Duramax is just like Ford in Houston; very poor dealer service............or you have to drive 100 or 200 miles to get to a good dealer and that is a real pain. GM may be making a good truck; but 90% of the GM (and Ford) dealers in Houston need to be fired.

Anyway, enough of the ranting........hopefully I will find a good dealer soon.

Hello and welcome to the forum!!

I was in the same boat as you. I was always partial to chevy. IMO its a all around dependable truck! The interiors nice dmax has plenty of power and the rest of the drive train is excellent.

A buddy of mine had a 05 superduty and I drove it before I bought my 06 duramax. The power and ride quality arent even comparable!!

Any who. I havent heard any major problems with the 07+ trucks with the emmisions stuff besides there hard to modify

Good luck with it!

welcome to the forum..
if this helps i just talk to a good friend of mine this morning and he has a new 2008 6.4L Powerstroke and he's thinking about pulling the Stroker and installing a Duramax but i think i'll talk him out of that and just trade the Ford on a GM Truck and get this he's only had the truck for 2K miles and first month he had it it was in the shop for 12Days.now for the Cummins, don't get me wrong the Cummins is a great Diesel but they have a brand new design and it has been causing quite bit of turbo and exhaust brake trouble so right now i would say the Duramax is causing the lest amount of trouble out of the 3 diesels and IMO it is the best rated at this moment..hope this helps
disclaimer: this survey(if you can call it that)is done by us and when i say us,we have 3 family owned tire stores so we see lots of diesels and quite few drand new ones..
