Oh...I should add that I am looking at a 03' Chevy 2500HD. Would you guys consider buying this vehicle given the problems they are known to have? Thanks in advance for the help. Any other input on this truck and diesels in general is greatly appreciated! Thanks, Greg

The 03 is a great choice, what problems are you referring too? If I had the opportunity to get my hands on a GOOD deal that was an 03 I would get it.

Are you pulling anything? Is it a daily driver?

Good luck,

Buy it and bomb it.

There are numerous reasons to buy a diesel over a gasser especially if you tow. Gasser will get about 6-10 mpg while towing heavy and a diesel will get 12-14. Unloaded my truck gets 20mpg and most gassers will get 15-16. The power is far more efficient and the diesel is easier to extract more power out of. A diesels resale value is far higher than a gasser and with the right additives, oils and extra filtration it will cost less to maintain. Not to mention a diesel engine will last a lot longer than a gasser.

Exactly what Dangerous said. I guess the real question is why shouldn't I buy a diesel. Durability, realibity, mpg, resale value, unbelieveable torque, the wonderful rattling sound of a diesel, the smell, all that black smoke...wait I'm getting ahead of myself.

Trust me, once you go diesel you won't go back.

In the little research I have done, I heard of injector issues. I know it is supossed to be covered(7years/200k), but it makes me nervous. Also, what kind of yearly maintanence is required? Is it hard to find a good diesel mechanic and if something does go wrong is it astronomical to fix? Thanks for the help!

Every year of a vehicle will have one issue or another. Its hit or miss as to whether you will have the injector issue or not. How many miles are on the '03? If your well under the 200K I wouldnt worry because it will be covered. Diesel mechanics and shops are everywhere and even becoming more popular. Oh and btw...you wont be pulling that 20' bass boat you will be dragging it like its on fire.
