I just got back from a weekend of pulling my 39' toyhauler loaded to the max. I was getting 10mpg on average and that is with all the crazy hills here in California. The risk of voiding your warranty is up to you. I personnaly left all the smog crap in the truck and just run the standard Edge CTS. This way I can still pass the smog tests but get a little better power, monitior my engine, and a little better gas milage. When I am not towing I average around 18-19mpg.

Eighteen miles a gallon without towing. Wow, I hope for that. I purchased a 2500HD Duramax/Allison about a week ago...a Silverado loaded, what a ride it is! But I don't expect to get eighteen miles a gallon as most of my driving is "around town". I have had three Ford 7.3 Powerstrokes. One a '97 F350 with a utility body on, another a '99 F550 longggg wheelbase (forget how long) with a dump body, and another Lariat F350 '01 extended cab with short bed. I never had a problem with engines, but did have to do ball joints on the '97, and the '01 (since sold) showed a fine mist of oil all over the engine compartment that the buyer didn't seem concerned about. I thought perhaps the turbo was going.

Anyway, the Duramax I'm driving now is one impressive truck. I hope to be just as impressed when it has 100K on it, and more

Go with the diesel. I love mine no problems yet. Check out the thread the great lmm debate. Lots of post on both with and without the DPF on. Mine is still on for the time being.

Welcome from a fellow Granite Stater! I'm from the Manchester area. Currently have an F250 SD gasser but looking to get into a GMC Duramax within a week or two. Checking out the 09 inventory vs ordering a 2010. Good luck!

Well its my understanding the the rust proofing done on ford/gm/dodge is about the same. I don't know that I would put faith that the GM rustproofing today is going to be any better than ford just a few years ago. I would wash the underside of my vehicle every time I took it out in the snow/salt and possibly look for problem areas and treat them day one. Now as far as the power of the DMAX when pulling... AWESOME!!! but make no mistake about it.... milage will suck and will really only be better than a gasser when in the mountains and hills. They probably will get close to the same on level ground. I get around 8-10 pulling my new 10k 5th wheel.

Lmm is great...Lots of power...They do have tuners that wont clog up the DPF. I'm running hypertech in mine for over a year now and all is good.
