Another new member from Northern Alberta checking in to say hello to everyone. Great forum here and full of lots of info - I have been lurking and learning.
I have just ordered my first diesel and my first pickup - just moving from a 2002 Toyota Sequoia SUV gasser. The details of my order are in my sig. but I have a few questions before I get the initial invoice from the dealer and have to finalize the order.
1. Should I get the rear slider window or rear defog? I like the idea of the rear window but don't want to drive around with a foggy or frosted rear window all winter.....any thoughts?
2. What is the underseat storage thing listed on the GM web site? Salesman had no idea nor any pictures. Worth the cost?
3. What is a good Bambi-basher? I have an Onki stainless brush guard on my Toyota and want something similar for the new GMC. Any suggestions on a nice one that is sturdy enough for a deer/elk hit (been there/done that) and not just pretty looking (preferably with light mounts)?
4. What is a good bedliner? Spray on? Just a rubber mat? I'll have a canopy so do I need anything?
5. How does the OE remote start work? Does it activate the glow plugs somehow? How long does it run and can you make it run longer?
6. What is a good canopy? Is Leer worth the money?
Thanks for taking the time to read and I'll post some pictures once I get the truck (approx. 6 weeks according to the dealer).
welcome to the forum

Welcome to the site...here is the info on the remote start:
The remote vehicle start (RVS) function allows engine starting while not in the vehicle. It also allows the vehicle HVAC system and other vehicle systems to enable, providing a comfortable vehicle upon entry. RVS functions have an operating range of up to 195 feet, depending on conditions. The RVS sequence begins by pressing and releasing the lock button and then pressing and holding the RVS buttons on the keyless entry transmitter. The turn signal lamps will illuminate to indicate the vehicle has received the remote start request. Each time an RVS is performed, the vehicle doors are locked, however they may then be unlocked/locked with the transmitter or vehicle key at any time. Once activated, the engine is allowed to run for 10 minutes. The RVS time may be extended by an additional 10 minutes by again pressing and releasing the lock button and then pressing and holding the RVS buttons on the transmitter. This feature is called a RVS continue and allows a maximum of 20 minutes of engine running. If the RVS continue is performed at 7 minutes into the initial 10 minute time-out, a total of 17 minutes of engine running would occur. The RVS event may be suspended at any time by pressing only the RVS button on the transmitter or by entering the vehicle and turning ON the hazard lamps.
In between ignition cycles, only 2 RVS events may occur or be attempted. Once 2 events or attempts have been made, future RVS events will be suspended until the vehicle is started using the ignition. The LCD display on the 2 Way Advance Remote Start transmitter will count down the remaining minutes in the RVS sequence. If an RVS attempt is not allowed, the LCD will flash all dashes when pressing the remote start button on the transmitter

Defogger.

A lot of guys like the spray in and it probably provides more protection but I like the drop ins. Drop a brick in a drop in liner and no dents, spray on may still dent, though I haven't tested that theory.
Anticipation will kill you, but will be worth the wait. Congratulations.
Welcome Marc. Congrat's on your new purchase! I am looking at purchasing a new GMC Dmax crew cab, standard box, 4x4. In evaluating the options, I could order a 2010 and wait for delivery or buy a new 2009 from dealer's lot. Dealer's might be getting more motivated to move the 09's on lot? Did you see an advantage of buying the 2010? Or did you just prefer it over the 2009? Thanks for your thoughts/opinions.

I prefer the rear slider

Was not aware they had underseat storage on some trucks
3. What is a good Bambi-basher? I have an Onki stainless brush guard on my Toyota and want something similar for the new GMC. Any suggestions on a nice one that is sturdy enough for a deer/elk hit (been there/done that) and not just pretty looking (preferably with light mounts)?
Depends on what look your goin for and how much you wanna spend
Frontier, Iron Bull, Throttle Down Kustoms, Ranch Hand are just a few different brands. Iron Bulls are gonna be really strong but are a different look. I have a frontier and like it alot.
4. What is a good bedliner? Spray on? Just a rubber mat? I'll have a canopy so do I need anything?
Line-X is a good spray in bedliner
5. How does the OE remote start work? Does it activate the glow plugs somehow? How long does it run and can you make it run longer?
It usually has a timer that waits 5 seconds or so for the glowplugs
6. What is a good canopy? Is Leer worth the money?
No idea
Thanks for taking the time to read and I'll post some pictures once I get the truck (approx. 6 weeks according to the dealer).
You'll love your new truck when you finally get it

I had and frequently used the rear defrost in my 05. I'd like the pass thru access to a cap but couldn't give up the rear defrost. They should offer a power rear window (with defrost) that lowers into the rear bulkhead.
2. What is the underseat storage thing listed on the GM web site? Salesman had no idea nor any pictures. Worth the cost?
I ordered mine with no dealer installed options. I think the "factory" underseat storage is the same as many of the aftermarket underseat storage bins. You can likely buy it for less at the parts counter or find something more suited to your needs in the aftermarket. After getting into my truck without step bars, I will definitely be adding a pair but I now have my choice of anything on the market verses the 2 options GM had. I'll also save a couple hundred dollars.

I'm not planning on one for my truck.
4. What is a good bedliner? Spray on? Just a rubber mat? I'll have a canopy so do I need anything?
I'm planning on getting mine sprayed next week. I'm leaning toward Line-X Xtra and going over the rails. I have an ARE MX cap on order. I'm going spray in because hauling almost anything will scratch the unprotected bed, mats don't protect the wheel wells and drop ins trap dirt under them, scratching the paint.
5. How does the OE remote start work? Does it activate the glow plugs somehow? How long does it run and can you make it run longer?
Not sure on timing. I would assume it works with the glow plugs based on installing an aftermarket one in my car.
6. What is a good canopy? Is Leer worth the money?
I looked at Leer and Raider before going with the ARE. I liked the ARE MX combination of style and additional height. Between the others (SUV style), I liked the Raider a little better than the Leer but I wouldn't say one was superior to the other. I didn't see an ARE Z in person.
Thanks for taking the time to read and I'll post some pictures once I get the truck (approx. 6 weeks according to the dealer).

I love the power rear slider but I dont live in Canada. Check aftermarket companies for the under seat storage, better products at half the price. Linex has the best spray in liners and I have never seen a brush guard that looks like it would hold up to an elk or big buck. Check out an aftermarket bumper like the one dunerunner has. Do a member search for dunesrunner and you'll see what i'm talking about, it looks indestructable.
