Hey everyone, I'm looking to buy a Duramax sometime soon, so i'm hoping to get some great info here and hopefully be on here a bunch once i get one.
Thanks in advance for info and help on some decisions im going to have to make, i figured who better than this forum to help me out.
Im looking to get 01-03 DURAmax, hopefully 4-door/short bed.
Anything you guys can recommend on what to look for when considering these trucks... any recalls i should look out for, any problem parts? I've heard something about the FI or something like that on the 01-02's?!?!?!
Welcome To the Site, Yes on the early models the injectors had some issues, but the dealer will cover them up to 200,000 mile IIRC, other than that there really arent many common problems, im not saying there arent problem trucks out there but not real common! Oh yeah if you buy a stick truck the flywheel will give you trouble some time in its life!!!!!
Welcome
Caleb

Thanks man. Yeah im definately trying to buy one with less than 100,000 miles. would you say its better to spend a few grand more to get into a newer truck, like an 03-04, or are they preatically the same??? thanks
So what can i do to get the FI checked out?!?! Can a dealer look it over and tell me if it has already been fixed?!?! Or is there a permanent fix for the FI issues? or do you just have to wait for it to break and then get it fixed?!?!
sorry for all the questions, this is going to be a big purchase for me and i want all the info i can get!
No problem, AS for the FI im pretty sure you just have to wait for them to go bad, you could have a dealer check the balance rates on them but most dealers wont even know what you meen if you ask them to, you would be best to find a good diesle shop with the right tools to do it!! The 03 04 lb7's seem to have less injector issues but all in all they are the same engine (lb7) If you get a late 04 you will get a LLY Engine, with different injectors, and turbocharger, no matter what you get though u could always get one with bad injectors! The biggest difference between the two are on a lb7 the injectors are inside the valve cover and on all newer ones they are external so time to change them is a whole lot less and less expensive!!
Hope this helps
Caleb
