My bro-in-law just got a 08 F-350 {which he has no use for a diesel}30000 miles on it and he is claiming 17-19 . I never been in it so that is all I know!

If you could , I'd wait until the 2011 Ford comes out early next year. Then compare. I guess it's like everything , You always find a better deal a month after you've quit looking.
I am a recent owner of my first diesel. I tried out different Fords, both 6.0 and 6.4, and the Duramax...as you can see I went with the Durry. I liked the power, the interior look and set up, and the Allison. Plus, the 6.0 Fords are garbage. I have heard the 6.4 is better, and my brother in law bought a 08 F450 for towing a big boat, and he likes it, but said he likes the feel and shifting of my truck better. Really it is what you think feels and drives the best, but I would stay away from the 6.0 Fords....do a Google search and you will see why. Good luck.

I think he said he will either go 08 ford or 08 chevy so he is out of the 6.0 range.. but i own a 6.0 and don't even consider it.. don't get me wrong i love my truck and i know it has a bad rap but with about 1200 in studs and egr delete it is a very reliable truck (illegal to drive lol but reliable).. but why the heck buy a truck that you have to spend more money on just to get it where the rest of the game is already at? so yeah definitely stay away from the 6.0.... ive heard the 6.4 have bad mileage like i stated before but i have to agree with whoever said "its about what you think feels good"....

From factual information from people I know, here is my breakdown:
Ford: I know at least 5-6 people who have 06-08's that ALL had the heads replaced within 20K. Mileage is horrible, shifting is sub-par. A couple of these guy traded their Fords in for a DMax and love it. I do know a couple guys who kept their Fords, and won't do away with them, but they are still more impressed with my truck than theirs. Ford does have the solid front axle, strong body, roomy cab, etc.. but in the long run, it's more of a work truck than anything...and that's what Ford builds their trucks for. Also, the whole Harley, King ranch, Cabellas, etc... packages are kinda weird to me...seems like they have to rely on looks to sell their trucks.
GM: I know quite a few people with GM trucks and none of them will do away with theirs. All of them get great mileage, love the allison, love the ride, interior, etc.. There were a couple guys who had injectors replaced, but that's the extent of it.
When it comes down to it, it seems Ford has had trouble with engines/reliability, and they are supposedly coming out with a new "Scorpion" engine soon... Good for them, but by then everything will be CAT/DPF/UREA/ETC..... and EPA will probably be worse than ever. GM just seems like that got their crap straight in 06, and has a solid reliable engine..

I am by no means an expert and am very biased (my family owns 4 Chevy dealerships), but I can honestly say that I love my DMax and have been in a crap-ton of Fords and admit, they are nice, but just do not compare to my truck in terms of ride, quietness, handling, power, mileage, etc... They are bigger and they look bad @$$, but I will never buy anything other than another DMax after owning this one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I get great mileage, handles great, interior is comfy and roomy, has a boat load of power and is fairly easy to work on when I need to. Oh, and adding power has been fairly cheap too
