Grew up in a Found on Road Dead, Bought my first truck 1995 GMC Sierra 1500 Vortec V6 (Reg cab) Put 243,000 km's on it. Great truck but out grew it as the toys accumulated. Next truck was a 2005 2500 Chev Silverado
Ext. Cab with 6.0L V8. 90,000km, 3kids,Dog, Wife, 21 foot Grady White and 9.0 camper later and the truck was still O.K. But recently decided to take the plunge and bought a 2008 3500 GMC Sierra with the 6.6L Duramax. Has 25,000km on it. This is my first diesel soooo... does anyone have any suggestions on what I should expect to see, recommendations on oil, should I put a water seperator on it? Any comments welcome at this point!
I bet you can guess what lube recommendations I will make. But for the most part, no matter what oil you choose, I recommend sticking with factory intervals on all fluids unless otherwise warranted or guaranteed to be covered for longer by the manufacturer of the products you choose to run. Delo, Mobile 1, Rotella Syn, Shaeffers, and AMSOIL are all good quality fluids. However, I am biased toward AMSOIL obviously.
For now, I would not recommend upgrading to an after market fuel water separator per say, if you are going to do that then I recommend an after market lift pump with the added filtration right from the start so that you don;t have to go back and do it again later if you upgrade more and need it.
As for upgrades, that all depends on what performance goals you may have in mind, your budget, and whether you are worried about losing your warranty coverage.
Welcome aboard first off. You should expect to see a great big smile on your face in the rear veiw mirror the first time you hook to that 21 footer.I had a 02 with a 6.0 and it has nothing compared to the power the Dmax does. It is a diesel so you want to keep up with the maintenance. They can go a little longer on oil but the fuel filter is the golden key to the thing running as it should. 9 out of 10 problems you may have are usually fuel related. I change mine every 10k even though the Dic on the dash says 50% or even as high as 60%. You can go 10k on the oil but there again I go 7500 on my LBZ and 5k on the LMM because it tows 80% of the time. The cost a little more to maintain but well worth the extra cost. Spend some time here you will know more about your truck than most dealers.Use the search option and you can have most every question answered

Hi all, bought my Duramax new in June 05 and plan to drive it till there is nothing left. Few wee add ons since the purchase. I'm also a fan of maintenance and beat you all. I change my engine oil every 2500 miles!!! Fuel Filter when the gauge hits less than 30% or when i can't remember the last time (whatever comes first), Full Trans Flush every 25K and I'm an old timer that climbs under and does grease and lube in those things called grease nipples that know one knows exist anymore. (pleasantly surprised to find a few of them on my truck). I volunteer for the local mountain search and rescue unit and a big truck comes in real handy! I haul a 5th wheel a little in the summer and love the power of the new age diesel!
