Just joined forum

Hi,
I just joined the forum trying to learn as much as I can about the Duramax engine/tranny. I have a Toyota Tacoma that is undersized for my new towing needs. I am looking at a 04 Silverado, 50k miles, it has Banks stickers on the fenders, but dealership has no idea what mods, if any, have been done. At least not that they are admiting to, the truck was supposidly used by the dealers son. There are also holes in the bed for a 5th wheel hookup, so I have no idea what was towed. Wanting to learn about the truck and what issues I might be getting into.

Welcome to the site. If the '04 is a LB7 there are injector issues on some trucks but GM extended the warranty to 7/200k for that problem, so you should be fine there. Other than that, the Duramax is a awesome engine.

You should be way more than happy with the truck.....I don't worry too much about past towing use. Towing is what these trucks were built for and its pretty hard to abuse them unless you just really over load them and have a heavy foot. Drive it and check for responsiveness, shift consistency, steering, braking, and also check all of the fluid colors and smells. The dealer doesn't always think too check these things. I went with a buddy about a month ago to look at a used Duramax. He was checking fluids with the salesman standing their and when he pulled the dipstick on the Allison, the fluid was BLACK and BURNT!! That right there saved him from someone else's abuse and headaches. Anyway, hope this helps and whtever you do, don't buy a Powerjoke (ford).
