I just got my first diesel. I've had two silverado's prior a 95 and a 2000. The 2000 had the 6.0. My cousin has a 05 GMC and I just loved the power it had pulling 10000 travel trailer through the hills of West Virgina, Virginia, and Pennsylvania on our annual hunting pilgramage. I just had to get one myself. I've spent the last three days going over the truck. Not happy with the fuel filter placement. You have to remove part of the right front inner fender liner to change or drain water. Looking forward to learning as much as I can.
welcome to the site..i would cut a hole in the inner fender and then make a door type of thing that you can remove easily to reach into the filter,i change the LBZ,LLY and LB7 filters from the top but you need about a 2FT step ladder to get up so you can see what your doing.

Is the 08 fuel filter placement any different than previous years? I actually changed one on an 05 today and find this to be no problem. I probably change more of these than most of you guys, but I haven't seen an 08 in my shop yet. Hey, just be glad it is easy to restart these trucks after ff change- a lot of other diesels are much more difficult- they lose prime too easy!!
i can see the filter just fine without the step ladder buts its kinda hard getting leverage while standing on the ground and i'm right at 6'.
if the 08's are the same as the LBZ(classic)then change them from the top,it takes me less then 5 min.s from start to finish on my LBZ.
