Newbie, why should I get a diesel

I have recently discovered how fast the trucks can go. I have a pretty well built 6.0 gasser that has beaten alot of stuff on the street. I would love the idea of diesel dominating some serious sports cars and getting better mpg than my gasser. I just dont know what the termonolgy. What are some of the mods that guys are using to get in the 12, 11, and I have seen some guys in the 10 sec 1/4 miles. Are these mods something a shade tree mech like myself can do or do they require special skill or special equipment?

Welcome>>>>>> The diesels can make some serious HP and Torque 10 sec 1/4 miles are gonna take some cash. You are gonna have to do some motor work to get there. 12s are in reach with a built tranny and some other mods. Some of the other guys with more racing experience might chime in to give you a little more help.
