Intro

Hello!
New here.
I currently own a 2007 GMC 2500 HD Duramax.
Prevoiously owned a 2003 GMC 2500 HD Duramax, and a 2007 Ford F350 powerstroke.

I am looking to trick some extra fuel economy out of my 07 GMC. I think my 03 got better economy, but maybe it is the new low sulpher diesel fuels or winter blend fuel that seem to be giving the low (unexpected) fuel economy.

Hope to find a bunch of info here.

Todd

welcome to the forum...what causes your unexpected low fuel economy isn't really the trucks fault nor is it your fault but all the emission stuff the goverment requires to have on them..
the best thing to do is install a Tune from either PPE,ATS,Quadzilla or EFILive and that should get you another 2-3MPG gain also do a exhaust for it from either Silverline or MBRP.

Thank you for the info.
I keep seeing info on the tuners you have mentioned above. I have a hypertech, and now feel regretful for buying it as it appears to be not very popular. Maybe I can sell it on Ebay and buy one from PPE.
Anybody using a hypertech??

Well maybe I can get on track now that I found all you guys here.

i have never heard any complaints off the Hypertech but most guys want a little more then what they offer,i would run it before you sell it and see what it does and if it doesn't do what you want it to do then sell it.
sick looking truck you got there, what size wheel'n'tire combo do you have and does it have a lift?

I personally don't own a Hypertech but have not heard anything bad about it...From my understanding Hypertech tunes are not as aggressive as a PPE tune...This is just easier on your drivetrain...PPE tunes 3 and higher can do some damage if you don't do any upgrades on the tranny.

I have 305-40-22 Nitto Terra grappler tires on Ultra wheel Titan 8 black rims. The truck is not lifted, just a slight torsion bar adjustment. I also slightly bent back the inner most part of the bottom of the front fenders for clearance.
As far as the wheels go people either like 'em or hate 'em.
I also stripped off all the emblems on my truck.

I really wanted something different this time.

Good info to know. I have only tried my hypertech on the middle setting so far. I should probably experiment with the other settings before I give up on it. Fuel economy is most important now I guess. Before these fuel prices it was power and recalibrating for bigger tires that I cared about.

Welcome to DF. It does seem the newer trucks aren't getting as good
mpg as the older ones. My neighbors dad just bought a new 08. He's getting 14 and only 9 towing his flatbed trailer.Needless to say he's a little disappointed. He traded in his 04 that was getting 18 and 12 towing. Both trucks were all stock no mods.
