New proud owner help

Hello to all. New guy here. I am the proud owner of a white 05' Chevy diesel crew cab with a short box. Has only 33,000 miles on it. I love my new truck. Unfortuneatly, I know nothing about how to improve the gas mileage on it but want to learn. Mama's upset that gas around here is $4.25 an gallon. The truck is stock everthing and gets about 17 mpg. It's an everyday truck as well. Any help would be awesome.
Thanks,

Dan

Welcome to DF! I kinda have the same question but when I drive I'm usually in a hurry so mpg takes a back seat. In reviewing overheating concerns, the EGR put on the LLY and the air intake modified to fit around the EGR has created some issues. People modding their trucks for hi hp seem to take care of this problem while persuing higher performance. The LB7 also had larger intercooler lines and heat wasn't as big a problem. I haven't had heating issues with my LLY but it is something I'm concerned about. As the fine listers mentioned in my original post, those with problem will seek remedy here but there are many who don't have these problems. Seems like poor mpg and o/h kinda fall hand in hand.

Cheers and enjoy your LLY.

On television today a Democratic operative pointed out that when Obama holds a rally 25,000-30,000 people show up, whereas when McCain holds one he only draws 10,000-15,000.

The Republican spokesman replied, "That's because McCain's supporters are at work"

first of welcome to the Forum...some ideas to think about,do a programmer,exhaust and a CAI and that should gain you another 3-4MPG plus a few extra HP to help on those big hills..
Programmer=PPE,ATS E-Power,Quadzilla and Diablo
Exhaust=4" or 5" 409SS Turbo Back from either Silverline or MBRP
CAI(Cold Air Intake)=AFE or Volant.

I have heard that using synthetic oil will help as well. Is this true and if it is what kind? I was thinking of getting the hypertech max energy e-con programmer for it because i am only pulling a 26' camper this season. It's a new toy as well!!! I'm trying to learn on the fly here!!

Welcome to the forum! I have been doing research myself to get better gas mileage out of my 06. Over the last week I have been watching my takeoffs and my over all driving habits and my MPG has gone up about 1.5 MPGs. I would imagine that if I had a tuner and keep these same new habits I can get another 1-4 MPGs with no problem. This would put me at about 19-22 MPGs. Which I can live with on a full size truck with plenty of power.

Now to save up and get a tuner....good luck and hope this helps.

You are not alone

Welcome to the site. There is a lot of useful info on the site. I would install an exhaust and programmer for sure. There are all types of systems out there depending on what you want. The combination on My 06 helped me to get as high as 22mpg
