Newbie Diesel owner X 2 months

Just got a 08Chev 2500HD ExtCab 6.5ft short bed. I tried to install an AFE-Stage 2 intake kit yesterday and 2 of the holes in the filter housing are off by about 1/4 inch. The instructions included in the kit were for a 07 LMM so I figured it would be okay at first. The retailer(Thoroughbred Diesel, in Kentucky) said to return it and suggested a S&B kit. Said he would pay my shipping and recommended the S&B kit over the AFE anyway. Bout $90 bucks cheaper too.

I tow a 13-14,000# 5th wheel and primarily want better MPG as the power level seems "good enough". Does anyone have a strong preference on which tuner and exhaust to recommend? I'm a little leary about the warranty issues after reading the post by Speedpro1 on the warranty hassles he has had with his blown engine. I also read the Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act and got some reassurance there, but with Speedpro1's situation I wonder if anything more than an intake kit is worth it.

If I do the air kit, tuner and quality exhaust kit what is the real world improvement expected for a mild mannered driver, which I am most of the time.

When you say a quality exhaust are you talking DPF Back or Turbo back and removing the DPF. You will get the most gain removing the DPF but will lose you warranty.
