I am thinking of getting a Duramax Chevy or GMC still cannot decide which one... Ext cab short bed 4x4 dark gray leather is what I like I would probably go with 03-06... I plan on getting it before this time next year
I don't know the difference between lb7 and the lly and the one after that (lbz maybe)? Does one have the egr and the other does not? Obviously the newer ones have more hp and tq but is this good?... I dont plan on doing any 5th wheel pulling just a 6x12 landscape trailer....
Which is better for the mods listed below and more :
guages
turbo back exhaust
tuner- (ppe perhaps)
maybe intake
maybe down the road turbo + injectors
I need help deciding and I guess I have lots of time to decide
Oh ya and I live in Ontario Canada just an fyi
and plan on getting the truck down in the states...

Yep...thats the one. The late 03 and early 04 had the emissions stuff on the Cali. trucks.
Here is the RPO codes to help you.
8th Vin #1-LB7 300 hp
8th Vin #2-04.5-05 LLY 310hp autos only, 300 hp manual trans and 4500/5500
8th Vin #3-06 LLY ratings are the same as vin 2
8th vin #D-LBZ 360 hp auto only, not an option in manual trans or 4500/5500 trucks>
8th Vin #6-LMM 365 hp

You are making a good choice with the Duramax. Like deeretracks said the LB7s will handle more mods with out having to touch the internals of the engine, but if you are looking for power in stock form go with the LBZ.

I was always taught the LB7's were the best for mileage, but have injector issues. The LLY's having cooling issues, but if you read Killerbee's research, you can fix that. The LBZ is good power, not as good on mileage, but not bad either. LMM - same as LBZ but with emissions stuff on it.
If it were me, personally I would go with a LBZ chevy or LMM chevy with emissions stuff removed. I did some research on brands, and if you like the body style of GMC, go for it. But as far as initial price and resale value goes, Chevy takes the cake. And this isn't my opinion, this is actual numbers I got from NADA - Kelley Blue Book, etc...

Everyone else has said it pretty good!! If you want easy to mod, get the LB7, if you want stock hp get the LBZ.
As far as mods, I would do the ones you have listed in that order... gauges, exhaust, tuner
its realy hard to beat any of the Duramax's but the LB7 has the best rep on fuel economy but IMO the best setup is the LBZ with the 6SP Allison..
