New to Duramax

I am new to the Chevy duramax as I just purchased a 2006 2500HD crew cab, LT3 with the LBZ. It is stock at this point. I really enjoy reading your comments as I am experimenting on towing techniques. Living in North Dakota, I was advised that the tow/haul mode was not necessary to use. Your forum says different. I pull a 28 foot Jayco, 7500 lbs loaded. Glad to be here.

most say when pulling you should use t/h, it will help keep trans from shifting too much and in turn will help keep trans temps lower

When towing, always use tow/haul mode if your going up or down grades. It changes your shifting algorithm in the transmission, reduces trans temps, and eases stress on the drivetrain.

Congrats on the purchase and welcome to the forum!

Welcome to the site.

When in Tow haul mode your torque converter locks up in 2nd gear which also help with the heat. Also the allison has the grade braking feature that does wonder for slowing you on down hill runs.

Wink Best to tow in tow/haul!!

^^yes use it!!That is what it is for.The trans won't be over active and will hold the gears good while you tow.I found the feature to be a blessing, esp when towing a dozer or other heavy skid steer. The number 1 enemy of automatic transmissions is HEAT.The tow/haul will help on the heat, cause you have fluid moving faster and with more pressure when it's on.So easy to see the benefits..Helps extend life of trans!!

Thanks for the info. I plan to put a 4" exhaust with a straight through muffler on next week. This is really helpful to me even though I had a 1996 12 valve cummins, 5 speed standard, with a fuel pump kit in it for 13 years, No comparison on the technology here.

I use my tow/haul when I am pulling something heavy or driving up and down grades. The allison is a blessing when you are running up and down hills. It will hold your gears longer helping you climb or accelerate.
