So I just bought a high mileage LMM. 2010 with 188k miles. Fully loaded. Seems to run just fine. Inside looks brand new. Few chips in the grill and roof from all those highway miles. Other than some minor cosmetic stuff looks pretty new. Drove 9 hours to pick it up...I hope its worth it.
I avg 20mpg on the drive home cruising at 75-80. I hope thats a good sign that the original injectors still have a few yrs left....what do you guys think?
I wish I hadn't sold my 2005 before my last PCS..would have been paid off. Oh well this truck is 5 yrs newer.
Oh the truck is bone stock..so feel free to give some pointers on what should be done 1st.
Thanks
Chris
Good looking truck, those don't seem like high miles to me either. My 12V had 370k on it when I bought it, our 7.3 had 280k on it, our new Duramax has 133k on it. If anything I seem to have more problems with low mileage vehicles. I'm working on a 2002 Camaro SS right now that is a basket case at 50k miles. I have a 2002 TA and 2002 Z28, both over 130k miles that run like tops!
I'm told at under 200k, injectors on the non LB7 trucks should not have issues for a long while. My first mod is always intake and exhaust, for you that means decided whether or not you will delete the truck. If it's a 4x4, a level and some nice AT tires is always a good first mod choice as well.
Welcome! The first thing I would do is give the truck a complete servicing. Engine oil and filter, fuel filter (NOT WIX), transmission fluid and external filter, front and rear differentials (assuming you have a front here), and transfer case. It will be money well spent, and you'll have peace of mind knowing that your new truck is road worthy. Don't forget to shoot some grease in all of the zerks on the front end. You also might check the u-joints out. If one or all have been replaced, they may accept grease also. Enjoy your truck!
X2. I run Mobil Delvac 1300 in 15/40 with a M1-303 filter. Pretty good combo I think for oil and filter. Check air filter and change if dirty. Do a double drain and fill and change spin on filter with another Allison red filter on your Allison trans. Drain and fill both differentials with a good 75/90 synthetic gear lube. Caution: front diff needs a hand pump to properly fill because of its location.
It's discretionary but I would drain the radiator and refill with new Dex-Cool as well. The 07-10 trucks have no drain petcock so you will have to remove the passenger side front inner wheel well and pull off the lower radiator hose. Very easy.
Before I forget, change the fuel filter, also located inside the front passenger wheel well, with an ACDelco/Racor/Baldwin or he like filter. Check with a vendor here for a good deal. Also, remember to reset your oil and fuel filter life in your DIC.
As far as mods go I would put an S&B intake, MBRP exhaust from down pipe back on as well as a FASS lift pump and some good EFILive tuning and an autocal or V2 controller. Don't forget, stock trans can only hold about an additional 90-100HP before you hurt it and have to rebuild when adding more power. As far as deletes, you can leave the EGR in place and add a blocker plate to keep the valve from opening up or remove the entire thing and use a delete kit to accomplish the same goal. I had problems with the blocker plate leaking so I deleted entirely. DPF will be gone with new exhaust and tuning.
