I am looking to a Duramax for work, however this would be my first Duramax. I want to buy a used one, couple years old. Anyone can help me with what I should look for? Like common problems, certain things to avoid, etc.
Look for salvaged trucks...they're really cheap, if you're up to the challege. There's many of them. If I were to get another truck, I think I would go this route.

Thank you in advance.
Get an '06 with the LBZ...good power and not as much emissions crap as the newer models...If you did get a newer model though there is a lot of aftermarket stuff out there that will disable or delete emmissions crap. If there are gauges on the truck then it may have had a tuner which could be bad if used in the wrong manner without the right upgrades...There are alot of guys on here that know 100 times more than I do so I'm sure they'll chime in.
They all have good power and are good motors but I personally have and have heard very good things about my model truck.

LBZ is the way to go. LLY's at first had overheating issues and the LB7's had injector issues. Good Luck

However, If your looking for a truck just to work and dont want to mod alot then a LLY 04-06 LLY would be a great choice as well. Some of them do tend to everheat but of course not all. Those are one hell of a truck and you can pick them up at a resonable price as well. the 01-03 or so LB7 (early duramax) are known for injector problems. Gm upped the warranty to 200K miles from the 100k miles stock and 7year. A few of my friends have LLY's and are extreamly happy with there power and durability.

if i was buying another Duramax it would be a 03-04 LB7 or the LLY but like TowMaster said they had some over heating problems with the LLY but nothing major and the problem can easily be fixed.i had an LBZ but the reason i would be going with the earlier Duramax is for higher HP reasons if your wanting a fast stock truck the LBZ rocks with that 6SP Allison tranny.
