2002 Gmc

Hi,

I'm new to forum and Duramax diesels. Have a 1966 GMC
K1001 with a 305 V6 though, had to replace the body with a brand X due to rust, not a show truck but sound. Talk about old school, any way...

Looking at purchasing a 2002 2500 extra cab Duramax auto 4X4 with 78,000 miles pretty much loaded (leather, power....) Asking price is $19,000 which is close to loan value based on NADA.

Any thing to be cautious of? Problem areas?

From what I've seen on this website, I could do worse on a purchase, right?

Call the dealer and run the Vin number, and see if the injectors have been replaced. And those are great engines. the injectors are minor becuase they have a 200,000 and 7 year warranty.

$19k is kinda pricey for for a 2002 - Yes, there is known injector problems with some vehicles and covered for 200k miles and 7 years. might be close to 7 years and they cost BIG $$$ to replace the set. Might look for a newer model for about the same price- the other years do not have nearly as much injector problems, and are easier to replace.

Also some 4x4 transfer cases wear into the case at the rear housing and leak oil. Can be fixed for several hundred $ as long as it is not run out of oil.

Thats the kind of feed back I was looking for.

Thoughts on what I should pay for this truck?

I'm pretty handy with engines, any idea on how difficult it is to change the injectors myself?

On the injectors let them do it its all free becuase under warranty. Thats low mileage for a 2002, but i think you could work them down a couple thousand. Is it on a lot or a individaul seller.

It's an individual selling it for financial/health problems.

I want to buy it with a clear conscience so I want to be fair within my financial resources.

Of course a benefit of buying it would be to hang around this website with you guys to improve my image. Hard to put a price on that. LOL

Ya lol, well i think that if the truck is in great shape, and has no issues that not a bad price. The diesel market will recover now with diesel prices going down, so the prices will begin to go back up on the trucks.

Price might be a little high. In Feb I purchased my CC SB w/o leather with 64500 miles on it from dealer and ended giving $23.5k. Had been looking for about 4 months previously for specificaly no leather (since i wear shorts most of summer and have gotten tired of hearing sizzle of skin setting on leather and vynil seats)and no console due to family numbers and low mileage with LB7 due to better out of the factory mileage. Previous owner is a friend of mine and I knew the care and maintenance he gives all his equip and vehicles so it was worth more to me to know how was treated. Prices have dropped a little on the used market due to price difference in fuels and some on the availability of vehicles.

I agree with everyone. The big thing to go on the early dmax like your looking into is the injectors. But, you have a couple years of warranty left. That price isnt to to bad for the mileage. IMO 18,000 would give me a clear consious....17,000-500 would be a good deal!
