any idea what it would take to make an Allison from a 2007 2 wheel drive work in a 2002 4x4?

Different NSBU and TCM, dimensions are the same (similar) and should physically all go together. I'm not sure if the trans has its own harness and can be swapped independently, but if you find out, post back and let us know. A great many people wouldn't mind dropping a gently used 6-speed to replace a high miles or abused 5 speed.

You CANNOT use a later 6 speed Allison in place of a 5 speed and have it work as a 6 speed. Not going to work.

It will work as a 5 speed with the 5 speed valve body--- or 6 speed, by adding a 6 speed conversion kit.

Yes 01-05 will work-- But you need the special cooler fittings because they changed to a larger size in 2003 -- available from GM.

To recap: even WITH the trans harness and TCM, a later 6 speed CANNOT be swapped into an LB7? Is there any specific reason?
