Pride In Our Country! Soldiers Coming Home Must Watch
If you have pride in our country and thanks for the men and women in uniform that give us the right to hop up our trucks and smoke mustangs or just enjoy towing your trailer to take the family camping...................you must watch this! Brought a tear to my eyes.
You can't say that doesn't make you proud. One of my sons was sworn in to the Air Force within the last month and I sure hope he gets this kind of welcome when he comes home.
I’m coming on less than 30 days on my third tour in Iraq. So I have had my share of welcome homes. Of course your home station has a welcome ceremony but that’s a given. The real welcome comes when you first land in the states. Out of the three Airports I have arrived either on R and R or end of tour, Dallas, Bangor and Atlanta only Dallas really welcomes the troops. The whole airport staff is helpful and courteous and they get you through customs without the usual BS everyone else goes through. Everyone in the airport is shaking your hand, hugging you and telling you how proud they are of you. It feels really good to know many people have us in mind. Now let’s take Atlanta, I hope I never land there again. Rude people, stares and glares, not a damn person even shakes you hand or welcomes you. Instead we get yelled at by a 6 foot 5, 300 pound homeland security woman who is more concerned that we just interrupted her Twinkie break and now she has to get off her ass and make sure we get through customs. Why the hell do I need to take off my boots, belt, ID tags, empty my pockets, open my laptop and all that other crap like I have some contraband on me. I think it is quite obvious a chartered plane full of US troops coming from Iraq have nothing on their minds but getting home. We don’t stop to pick up civilians along the way. Any how I just want to say that of all the places I have been stationed Georgia and Texas being one of them and all the states I have traveled to. I think Texas is probably one of the last Red Blooded American States left. That’s why I own a home in Texas and will return when I retire. One last thing the Dallas Fort Worth Airport has been welcoming me home since 2003 and the welcome keeps getting bigger every time.

Back in 2004 and 2005, I was flying back and forth from Korea quite often. I flew through many different US airports during those trips. Several times I had the good fortune to fly through Dallas and witness this. Prior to the first time this happened, I always said I hated flying through Dallas, this changed my attitude.
It is a very moving experience to be part of and see these brave men and women returning from overseas. I was normally trying to make it to the connection flight, but did have the opportunity to stop for a moment. These are very special moments.
Thanks for posting this Dane. Seeing it when I went through, I never actually realized how often this was happening. These great people would hand out snacks and such to the soldiers as well.

I hated that they screened us when we got home. The whole point of those checks is to prevent terrorist activity. To be treated like such when returning home is retarded.

I had a better send off from the people at the Bangor, Maine airport than anywhere else (including my home station). People came out for 3 hours to make sure that we had food and beverages at 11pm. I can say from my own personal experience that it makes a soldiers day when you shake their had and tell them thank you. A friend of mine said a great quote the other day "soldiers to not fight because they hate what is in front of them, they fight because they love what is behind them". God bless you all.
GREAT POST Dane!!!
Best of luck to your son.

Soldiers do not fight because they hate what is in front of them, they fight because they love what is behind them.
Them little 90 year old ladies will come out at any time. I've gone through Bangor a couple times at like 2-3 oclock in the morning on the way out and back in, and there are the "Maine Greeters" out shaking hands.
