I am close to needing a new set of treads. I am currently running on Toyo Open Country mudders (285/75). They have been ok but not totally happy with the miles I have gotten on them. I want to go to another 10 ply all terrain tire. I like the way the 285's look. Any suggestions. Would like to stay under a grand for the set.

I have 265 Bridgestone Deuler Revo's. $850 w/50k warranty and road hazard. Love em. there on a 92 silverado, not a dmax, but I've gotten 40k out of them so far mixed city/hwy, and with a light foot, and they still have about 1/3-1/2 tread left. And they will hold their own in the mud, yet are completley silent on the highway. They really come in to their own in the snow, but that doesn't do you much good in texas!! LOL here's a pic...

ps the 285's really look killer, I was dissapointed with the 265's compared to the 285's, but the 85's wouldn't fit on my truck

edit: Mine are 6 ply, so IDK what the price difference would be for 10 ply.

The only other tire i would compare with the toyo m/t is the Cooper STT unless you want an all-terrain. The Cooper STT is bad ass :rockin If you are wanting mileage out of a mud tire this is the best ive seen but i know an all terrain would get better Prob mileage out of an all terrain BFG and Nitto terra grappler seem to do well

I have had no trouble with the Nitto Terra grapplers. We have been running these tires on our suburban and my truck for a couple years now.

I 've got a set of Pro Comp Extreme MT's. They only have about 1000 miles on them so far, but don't seem to be wearing at all yet. I got them on a buy three get one free deal at Four Wheel Parts, and had them shipped for free to my local store(45 minutes away).

Hey gr8shot, are those 10 ply tires? I have experienced a problem with 8 tread tires wearing very badly on the front.

Shafer, I've heard and seen some pretty bad things with the yokahoma's. My best bud got em the same time I got my bridgestones, he's put a little less miles on his truck about 30k compared to my 40k and they're completley SHOT!! every set I see on a truck they're always bald. But thats just my experience, could be wrong.

I honestly can't remember what mine are off the top of my head. I don't think they're 10 ply. But I imagine you can get em in 10 ply, duno though you'd hafta check. I can't praise em enough though, great tire!! I'll buy another set if these ever wear out. Practically impossible to hydroplane with em.

Good luck with your search!!

I like my BFG ATs. A buddy of mine has seen 60,000 out of them on his Ford F250, and another 50,000 on a dodge 2500. Both trucks had a diesel and they both spent about 30% of the time pulling 3000 to 20,000 lbs. I have about 40 on mine and still have over 1/3 tread left. I like them in the snow, mud and Highway.

I know they're not the ultimate all terrain your seeking but with over 400k on 4 sets of Michelin LTX M/S's (on different vehicles). I cant speak enough of these tires. They're quiet, ride awesome, great in rain, snow and mud, and they LAST FOREVER! I got 265's in 10ply on the truck 3 months ago over a set of 245's and mileage stayed @ 22HWY. Just my 2 cents!
P.S.-check out tirerack.com they're local to me and the prices are better than anyone local.

a 285-75R16 LR E 10PLY is going to limit your options but IMO and in the past the BFG's are great wearing tires along with the Coopers,Bridgestones and Michelins but the Michelins probalily wont be rough enough..

what do you guys think about the yokohama geolander ats? I've seen alot of these around, but not on duramaxs.

I just bought some Nitto terra grapplers and am happy with them so far! The Bridgeston dueller revo's, coopers, and toyo's are all great tires to! The Coopers and bridgestone's are the tires that wear the best IMO. But there both really pricey.

Im not 100% sure but I dont think you can find a 285 in a 10 ply load range E. I agree they do look great on the dmax. I had 285's and they wore out so I bought 265's. I missed the look of the 285 so I sold the 265 for the 285

The only downfall is you'll loose MPG's with the bigger heaviar tire!
