Tuners?

Didn't plan on getting a tuner for my truck.

On the other hand, wasn't planning on getting the truck- stock 2002 Silverado LB7, Allison getting 19-20 mpg so far.

So after getting exposed to this BB I'm considering a tuner.

Something not too over powering, I don't want to change a lot of plumbing or limp the stock Allison.

I've looked thru the archives and my gut feeling is that the Diablo Sport Predator may be a good choice for me.

Any thoughts on this or other units?

Diablosport has a good unit. Another i would consider is a Superchips its set up so you can run on the highest setting and not destroy the truck. Let me know if you have any questions.

Most tuners all have the same basic function, just power differences.

Some tuners also have built in safety features, so you can run a higher tune, get more mpg, but not damage anything.

Whatever tuner you decide to go with, be it Edge, Superchips, DiabloSport, PPE, Quadzilla or Banks, getting a set of gauges is a wise investment. Adding power increases exhaust temperatures, and you may be only adding 50hp, but EGT should always be monitored.

what they said... if you want to monitor more things after you get your programmer... I would suggest an Edge Insight...

if your really looking for a little more power, getter mileage and a better looking and sounding pickup id suggest just getting a tuner, exhuast and moding the stock airbox or getting a aftermarket intake. im sure tyler or mike can give you a deal on getting all 3. 4 inch exhuast, tuner and intake

I've heard the Diablo shifts rough and doesn't increase mileage....this is coming from PM'ing more than 3 people who bought one and reading posts on here. Anyways...other than that, if you are going to get a tuner, get a 4 inch exhaust first...your truck needs to breathe better.....and if you get a tuner, put it on a lower setting 90 or under and don't drive like an idiot or tow large loads and you shouldn't have a problem....I"m not guaranteeing that...but IMO you should be ok. And the mileage you are getting now....that's good...

Everyone has suggested something different but I like the PPE tuners, like the Economy. It has a defuel option for the allison so the fuel is shut off for a second so the trans can shift, and the ability to reset "the learn" on the allison. I run my standard in tow mode (90hp) and get 22-23mpg on the highway. For the last 40k miles ive done the normal servicing of the trans fluid and engine oil, thats it... not a single problem out of engine or trans. I would HIGHLY suggest looking into a PPE. *not a testimonial just an honest opinion.

I had a Hyper tech Power Programer in my 2004 and Loved it. Great power doesn't hurt the MPG's 3 levels of tuning. I installed it the first year I ahd my truck and ran it with it till I traded the truck in 2 weeks ago.
It will be up on Ebay real soon for sale. I never had a problem with it.
