Don't know if I"m missing anything or not, but Killerbee has an article about changing or modifying the mouthpiece. Actually if you contact him I think he sells that stuff. Some guy just had a post on here about how he went to see him, bought some stuff off of him, and he was VERY happy! I think the thread was called "an unbiased review" or something like that.
Hook'em Horns,
Have you driven in a hard rain with that modified air box? I had mine set up exactly like yours and my filter ended up getting wet. I switched to K.B.'s True CAI. Spring hinged door instead of always open front seems to be a safer way to go.

Many mods to come over the winter.

Oh yes, at 40mph in a 5+” an hour rain storm on the interstate. There was so much water on the road that the rooster tails from my front wheels ‘Parting the Ocean’ were cab high to the right and left, AND as my Revos never hydroplaned, I could have driven faster but small blind cars wouldn’t get out of the Left Lane (Hate that!)
I’m running a K&N, not paper, with no performance issues and though I didn’t inspect after the drive, I never noticed any signs of water contamination on the filter when cleaned during my oil change.
I really don’t see any concern in this area as it is a ‘Dead Zone’ up front, out of the path of the wheel well action and well above the lower air dam of the front bumper.
From the top…
And from the bottom looking up, with the edge of the inner fender at top running left and right…
I do see a possible inlet of water though, from the front grill, under the headlight, which could easily be addressed.
Besides, how often would one be running WOT during such a downpour anyway? Now traversing 2-3 feet of water in a low water crossing/stream/creek may be a different story. If it would ever start raining again here, I could check this out further with more testing and inspections of the areas.

The stock intakes have been shown to flow enough air for 500rwhp. And their filtration capabilities are unsurpassed.
I agree. It’s like, if the turbo needed a 1’ opening and GM had designed a 3’ opening in the stock design, how is an aftermarket 4’ opening going to help?

Hook'em Horns,
If I remember correctly, you don't have the holes in your right front fender? Maybe that's where I picked up the moisture.
No, mine doesn't. I read where GM realized an issue with those holes and moisture, as they started capping/covering them up in later LB7s and early LLYs. Mine is a late '05 production truck with no holes stamped, just sheet metal.
