Hi guys...I just bought a new Sierra w/ the LMM Duramax. I was wondering if I replace the stock exhaust w/ the Banks Monster exhaust without any other modifications (intake mods, power programmers etc.) could there be a negative reaction? I have heard that when you put a more free flowing exhaust on the truck, you want a type of cold air induction to "level things out" or you may lose low end...is this true? I think a nicer sounding exhaust would be cool and I also like the looks of the Banks and like their reputation. However, I don't want to lose performance and certainly don't feel like spending the additional money for a power programmer and cold air intake etc. So, I am just hoping I get a better sound and not lose any performance. Thanks for reading my thread and any help...
DPF systems look much better and will ad minor performance you will not loose anything. If your looking to increase mileage and performance you can do both and spend less on a good programer.

The DPF back wont give you any increase in sound. It gives you better looks, and just a little less restriction. I would save for a Banks 6 gun if you want the best bang for the buck mileage wise, because the exhaust wont help much.

as far as loosing power when adding an exhaust, that is more of a concern with the earlier model years that didn't have a DPF. with your truck, like others have said you will not see hardly any difference. your money would be better off spent on some sort of programmer to increase power and fuel economy, it would be much more cost effective in the long run. also just by doing a programmer you will not hurt anything else, providing you're not hot rodding around too much

The benefit to the Banks Monster exhaust is about 99% cosmetic. Doesn't improve performance or anything else. They claim a slightly lower temp at the tip in regen mode, big deal. I bought one for my LMM and was pretty disappointed with the quality. Construction was sub-par, and not what I would expect for $500. Plus, the chrome tip is just an open megaphone with an pipe inside, it's not even welded together at the exit. My recommendation is that you consider other options, and don't believe the marketing puffery about Banks quality, performance, etc.

If I'm correct, you're the guy who bought the exhaust off of Ebay....which you can't even really say it's a true Banks exhaust. I can guarantee you if you buy a TRUE Banks...you WILL have a welded tip, SS everything, and a lifetime warranty...and if you don't, you call them and they will make sure you get a top quality one with no defects. You just have to buy from Banks, or an honest to god Banks dealer.
On that note...for an LMM....there is no performance difference, just looks. The DPF is your main restriction and problem. I don't know what your future plans are....but if you keep the DPF you are looking at most tuners clogging it. For the BEST mileage and performance gains....you have to go downpipe back. Not saying a tuner won't help...but the DPF is like a watermelon in a garden hose.

Fact that the seller has an ebay store is irellevant. Why even bring it up. Any retalier local to me would have ordered the part and probably got it from a warehouse supplier. How is that any different. I looked at their stuff at SEMA just a couple of months ago and know for certain what I have is not a fake, it's the real thing. The cool cuff part is held on with 4 small welds, and not even centered on the pipe. Same for the tip. And the tip has the exhuast pipe going through it. The two pieces are not welded together like on MBRP, Magnaflow and others. There was no finish work done on the pipes, etc.
I'm just stating exactly what a Banks rep. told me. After I got my exhaust, I called them to see exactly what it was made of, etc... He told me that if my exhaust was not built properly and was out of the box with imperfections, that they would replace it an no cost. I just know that Banks prides themselves on selling top notch products, and would never expect someone to keep a flawed product that they payed for if it is in fact a true Banks exhaust. I'm just saying, if you got a bad product, and are not happy with it, Banks would warranty it and give you a new one that was built properly, or would return it and give you your money back. I'm not arguing with you by any means...to each his own.....I just don't want the guy who started this post to think Banks is going to send them a piece of crap exhaust and then they'll be stuck with it, because thats not the case.

Well said. We have a 6 gun in our stroker; it went bad and Banks took care of it in 2 days. Sent us a whole new kit!
