I got an Alligator Performance race valve for Christmas. After reading about it now that I have it, I think I should have put a shim kit instead of a race valve. But seeing that nothing bad has really happened with race valves, I plan on just going ahead and putting it in. I was wondering if I was gonna have to put an o-ring or a washer on it? My girlfriend's Dad who is a mechanic told me I'm gonna have to but since it didn't come with one I was thinking maybe not. Anybody know what I should do? I rather be safe than sorry.
most guys run into issues with the rail popping off due to todays tunes which generally increase rail pressure. I dont think GM designed the engines with adding additional pressure in mind. so thats why lots of guys will start popping the rail and run into issues with simple tuners
i just pulled mine out, took me probly twenty minutes. Definitely was a fight to get that little sob outta there! I just used an 18mm swivel ratchet wrench and another regular 18mm and double wrenched it. Still took quite a bit to get'r, probly looked like a monkey humpin a coconut but she finally broke free. Now just gotta wait for the shims too show up with the twins and ill button'r all back up!
Got a friend coming today to handle a pry bar to keep pressure on the socket while I pull.....cross your balls and wish me luck please lol this whole ordeal is giving me an ulcer
Finally got it out......with my buddy using a piece of steel and applying pressure to the socket to keep it straight, it finally broke loose. THing was stuck tight in the socket which is why the threads are damaged cus I had to beat it with a hammer to get it out lol
I grinded the rounded lip of the socket flat to make sure as much of the socket was in contact with that FPRV as possible, worked good for me....used my 1/2" snap-on cordless inpact
Kinda. I didn't know if the added pressure cold cause something else to leak. I tightened everything well tight enough. I have to remove my rail and put it in my vise. I've replaced injectors on an LB7 and the injector lines never end leaked and I went a tad bit righted on my LMM tonight. How many ft lbs does the plug need to me?
If you actually removed the rail, then any one of your injector lines could be leaking. All of the lines should be tightened to 30 ft-lbs using a flare nut socket (so you don't round off anything). Also make sure your FPRV is tight using a 3/8" impact gun.
used an 18 out of my kobalt set from lowes and a small sledge. two taps on the wrench and it was free. this was the single most easy job to do on these trucks it seems. no idea how you guys are stripping them. too high of point on the wrenches maybe? i think mine was 6?
I've done two one was easy but the guy at the plant that did mine on my lmm was feeling froggy cause mine was gosh awful tight. I think some are just tighter than others.
If ppe valve is tight and has the O-ring I'd check the injector lines. I had to fight with mine and ended up havin to buy two new lines to get them to stop leakin.
The hardest part for me was getting the Glow Plug Module bracket off and then back on. I finally cut the bracket, welded a tab to bolt it back together. Easy now.
I took a brand new 18mm 6 point socket and ground the bevel off and used a 3/8 ratchet with a swivel head, then had a buddy with a breaker bar pull down why i held the socket on the bolt. Off she went
I used an 12 point box end wrench, and tied a ratchet strap to it and tightened it down to the side brace next to the driver side hood spring and off it came. Was the easiest install ever... Did that same technique for breaking turbo up pipe bolts loose
Low rail pressure yes, a lift pump helps provide your cp3 with pressurized fuel so it won't "starve" under load ie larger tunes and WOT. The factory plug is spring loaded and is pressed open rail levels meet the psi the spring is set at. Over time the spring can/will wear and open up when it shouldnt, there is a shim kit to stiffen the spring but it's way easier just to plug it.
Try to get the nut off the pinion on the rear diff. I FINALLY broke it lose without air or a snipe. Bash my knuckles pretty good though lol.
This is off topic, but how the F do you get that damn yoke and balancer off??? Damn that thing is on there good!
