Should I buy an older "PPE HOT" Tuner?

Hello Everyone,
I had a quick question about a Programmer that my neighbor is selling. It is an OLDER “PPE HOT”, He bought it new in 2003 after he bought his 02’, so it is only able to tune the LB7 (and it is divorced from his old truck), and it comes with everything, they guy really takes care of his stuff. The Downside of this is that I read through the manual and the tunes are really random:
-130HP
-160HP
-275HP (I think)

The upside is that he only wants $150.00 for it, but I am concerned because I have a stock setup right now. I wanted to go with a 90HP tune from PPE in the next few months but I think the 130 base increase is too much for the stock tranny. (He claims he ran it in his truck for several years at the 160HP setting with no issues, but I also understand that a lot of people have BIG stories) Also I was concerned about the age of the tuner, wondering if the tunes are better in the newer PPE.

What do you guys think, just wait a few months and spend the $550.00 on the newer PPE, or grab the older PPE and start playing with it? THANKS!

i would take it and send it back to PPE and have it updated for the 100 bucks or so it costs

if i was you id buy it........actually if you dont buy it.....if he really wants to sell it i would be interested......
