I have an 08 Sierra 3500 and I am in the market to possibly get a tuner for it. I took the truck to the dealer a few months back for the recall where they 'recalibrated' the ECM and the truck just doesnt seem as peppy as it once was. And I have really never been too thrilled with its MPG for being a diesel.
95% of my trucks use is a daily driver to work and back (20 miles round trip) The other 5% I use it for towing of my 06 Grand Junction 5th wheel trailer(15,500 lbs loaded down). I know the mechanics and fleet manager at my local dealership so they will probably overlook any mods I do to my truck but I would still like to not do anything to void my warranty (just in case). After reading through a few threads here I have narrowed it down to 4 plug-n-play tuners that I can remove for any reason;
Edge's Juice
Ts MP8
Banks Six-Gun
Banks OttoMind
All I am looking for is some more MPG's and a lil more power when pulling my trailer. Any input on these devices? One better than the other? Are the installation for the devices all the same? Do I need a Pyrometer and Boost Gauge?
Thanks for any info!

Out of the 4 listed i would do the Banks 6 gun with pda. Yes you will need a pyro guage if you are gonna use the added power to tow, but that is what the PDA is for. It will monitor everything that needs to be monitored.

I am with Kyle of the ones you listed i would recomend the Banks, the best option would be to lose your dpf, but if waranty is a issue, i wouldn't advise it, let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks for the info guys! I know you cannot go wrong with the name of Gale Banks. The Palm add-on with the unit seems like its worth the money since it will display the vitals of the engine. Looks like I'll have to be saving the funds for a bit longer before I can upgrade.
Anyone have any experience with the Six-Gun compared to the OttoMind? Does the OttoMind only have one tune (PowerPack or Stinger) and the Six-Gun have six different ones to pick from? I won't be doing anything crazy with the truck so I was just curious if the Six-Gun would be worth it to me. Any thoughts? Anyone know the price difference on the two?
Thanks again guys!

Sweet info guys, I have a lot to think about (and some money to save). I will probably end up going with the SixGun since it has more expandability. And I will definately be adding your site to my favorites 4x4Fantasy. Thanks again!

I can see the day coming when removing a DPF will probably get you more time than robbing a bank so I will keep mine but someday I might try a programmer that I can remove without leaving a memory that it was ever there. Does the Banks have this feature?
Also have read so many horror stories of programmers plugging the DPF and having the engine go into limp mode. Holy crap, that would be just like owning a PSD sick-oh and I've been there and done that. Owning a 6.0 made me order an 05 F350 V10 and it was a great reliable truck that loved fuel but taught me a lesson.
Reliability is much more important to me than extra gas mileage. The V10 was at least 30% harder on fuel than my Ford 6.0 PSD but I loved hat truck and I would still be driving it if I had not been written off in an accident.
My 08 Duramax is at least 50% better on fuel and a much sweeter vehicle so because no one was hurt when the Ford was totaled, it turned out good for me.
