I have always wanted to do a sled pull. My town is finally going to have one. I have no clue where to start. First off. Do I hold the brake and get my turbo spinning and do a accelerated take off? Do you use four high or low? Do you guys Manuel shift or let the auto take over? Thanks
4lo, try to light the turbo some depending on the track kinda watch the guys that seem to know what there doing. You should get tie rod sleeves, lower your t bars all the way down, get a hitch height that is as close to maximum height with out being over, add weight if needed to get to max weight, lower tire psi but ask around at the track to get an idea of what anyone might tell you about the track and what psi. Use tow haul so converter locks in second. Dont blow it up lol.
If you do tune your truck with efi make sure it doesnt shift like this before your pull. I didnt test my tune in 4lo to make sure it shifted better before the pull.
When i pulled last weekend all I did was drop the torsion bars all the way down 4lo 3rd gear and just came out of the hole rolling didn't do any boosted launches, got me 3rd in my first class my cousin pulled later on and went 291ft didn't have my sleeves on and i was fine just dropping the t bars, after you get rolling hold it to the floor and have fun just make sure it doesn't start hoping on you, if so just back out of it easy and don't break anything, it gets addicting after your first hook
I pull every weekend this is my setup... Lower the t bars all the way down. Adjust tire pressure mine are set at 25 in the front and 50 in the rear. 3rd gear tow haul and 4 low. I let it shift on its own. I spool up to about 5 8 lbs of boost and let out. I let the truck start moving a little bit. And by 75ft it's to the floor. At the end of te pull when the red flag is thrown I push the column shift forward. That throws the truck into neutral and keeps the turbo from barking and will not go into reverse when down. Practice it in your driveway! A couple of my buddies pull without sleeves with me and no adjustments what so ever. If it starts to hop let out. If you feel the front end start to shake let out but the roll back into the throttle.

Thank you for the info. So you guys are putting it in 3rd and taking off and letting it do is thing from there? This is my first diesel and I'm stoked.
Its easy to tear them up on the track. So far no one has broke their truck hooked to our sled this year, but im sure it'll happen, the season is still young! Take it easy your first hook and see how it acts. Lots of good suggestions so far. Biggest thing is watch that front end! I'll warn you.... pulling is addicting!!!
another note to add is use clamps on the rear springs or suspension stops. also make weight bracket on front and put weights there. depends where you pull and rules you can do these
I'll take an I cab video Friday night. All the duramaxs I pull with do it beside my buddy cause he just doesn't care. I have a lot of videos of it being done at the end of the track you can definitely tell I'm doing something lol.
Oh alright thanks, I don't have a duramax but I'm working on that and I do plan on pulling so I'm just tryin to get as much info as possible. I was trying to find videos so I could see it but haven't been able to find any
Lol my phones full I need to start a thread and fill it full.
