I would make a anonymous call to your local inspector and tell them you are looking for information on Diesel emissions testing. If they use a smiffer you will be fine. If the do a visual inspection then you will want to keep your stock exhaust and put it on when you get tested.

Legally no it wont, but it depends on the person doing the inspection. If they look for it.

You could cut the guts out of the muffler and put a piece of pipe through it. There's your straight pipe.

Ya it really seems like it all depends on who is running the shop you get it tested at, the guy who runs the place I'm gonna get mine at was asking me where I got my exhaust from when I got my oil changed So I should be alright.

And don't forget that maybe $100 bill will make him see what you want him to see...money makes the world go 'round..

iirc there is a maximum decibel level that you must fall under, but most inspection shops don't have the proper equipment to measure this. back when i was running my factory exhaust straight-piped, it depended on the shop i went to and the mood the inspector was in whether or not i passed

Im running straight from the DP back...i turned the muffler around so the baffles face backwards. no problems yet. like everyone else says, depends on how cool the guy doing the inspection is.

If you are running the 3.5'' factory pipe you can get a "blank" glasspack. Its just the casing. The shop that does mine got caught right before he checked my cummins last time, so i had to put the muff back on for a day or two.
