Tie Rods?

I noticed yesterday that the boots that hold the grease in the tie rod ends are broken. I've never had good luck just replacing the boots on past vehicles, so my question is when I buy new tie rods should I just get factory replacements or should I upgrade to heavy duty ones?

What kind of upgrade are you looking at? A heavy duty end or the big ones like fabtech?

Anyways Id defiatly upgrade. If it doesnt replace the whole tie rod and you pull at all in 4wd Id buy a set of sleeves since you'll have the ends off and need a alignment anyways.

I'll probably just get a heavy duty one, not the big ones like fabtech. Any suggestions on what kind to get and where to get them?

Looking on the nor-cal truck site at the cognito's and it said that you need longer sway bar end links? Does anyone have any experience with this?

Upgrading is always the way to go but the LINKS arent the weaklink the sleeves are so, imo, i would get a factory set of rods ends and get an upgraded set of sleeves.
But it is also my opinion that any set of upgraded sleeves should NOT be made of 303 or 304 stainless steel but rather heat-treated 4340-300m chrome-moly, titanium, or a heat-treatable stainless like 17-4.

We have seen the Cognito HD tie rods make contact at full turn and drop out on some trucks. This is due to the large super size of the tie rod. You can add the tie rods and if it looks like they will touch then you can always order them after checking.

Too bad nobody makers a heat treated chromwe moly sleeve.

I cosse to go a cheapish rout with MOOG tie rods and Upstate Diesel sleeves.

Total cost was under $200

Where did you get that setup from? I need new tie rods, they have alot of play in them and id also like to do an upgrade with the sleeves.
