it was the same design, but i heard there is a "new and improved" one out there now. I talked to my dealer and they said that it had helped. I honestly dont think they have gotten it fixed, but its worth a shot for you since it has never been changed.

There should actually be very little to no play at all if you grab the shaft and try to move it.... The more it moves the more wore it is- just fyi

I know mine sometimes make a clunking noise....but that is in the winter when i have ice built up on them between the rocker and the bar.
mine just went bad... if you grab the u-joint at the firewall in the cab and try to move it, there should be no play, quite easy to tell if its the lower bearing....

I was wondering if you found your problem. At 93000 mile I have it too. front hubs were replaced at 75 and 80 thousand. It happens when at low speed and turning while going though a dip or naything that makes the truck rock while turning.

yes I did..turns out it was the bracket that the caliper mounts to. We changed the bracket $ 120.00 and the bolts $ 15.00 or so. Sounds to me like it may be your intermediate shaft though...

mine does the same thing. dealership keeps saying that it's my nerf bars but that is bull... it did it before the nerf bars were put on. also the steering shaft is rattling now and this is a completely different noise. driving me nuts...
