Towing capacity

We have just purchased a 2012 heartland 38'3" 12,600 lb trailer (dry weight) and a 2006 1 ton diesel duramax dually to tow it. We were assured that it would be powerful enough to tow it fully loaded.

Now we are looking at some charts on the web and worrying that the trailer is too big for the truck.

Any idea please
better yet - anyone know what the truck might weigh
Doing the GVWR and GCWR calculations with less that all the info needed.

Thank you
B

You're fine.
Set the cruise and enjoy.

But, that trailer's heavier than that. More like 15-16k.

Isn't the 06s rated at like 15.9k? I would not worry about that though. The LBZ at work tows 25k trailers everyday and been doing it the last 200k miles. Runs like a champ. Your probably going to be in the 24-25k range loaded and ready to roll. Easy peasey for that truck.

Your 1 ton weighs just shy of 8k,assuming crew cab, long box, and loaded with options.

I routinely towed 16k with my 3/4 ton, locked the cruise at 78 and put a movie on. You have nothing to worry about. You could literally hook a car to the back of the trailer and still have no concerns.

Also, do yourself a favor and go to a truck stop and pay $10 to have your rig weighed. This will give you a reference point for any future tows you may want to do and will help you understand your truck's capabilities.
