Recommended class V reciever?

I remembered reading something on here about how the stock Class 3 hitches are junk, only rated for 7500lbs or something near there. I am towing a 7000lb bumper-pull back home on Sunday. It's got a weight-distributing hitch, so I'm not worried, but it got me thinking about an upgrade.

A quick search showed that almost everyone recommended the Putnam XDR, but unfortunately they are going out of business and stock is hard to find. Is there a new recommendation? I don't tow heavy stuff on a regular basis, but I don't want to be limited should the need arise.

What you have is fine for what you're pulling, however if you want to upgrade, CURT is now making the old XDR hitch.

15k lb capacity/16k lb with WD hitch. No drill, 30-minute install.
$174 with free shipping

hmmm...never realized that. ive pulled way more weight then that with mine. ive also ripped friends out of mud holes hard enough to shear the shaft off a 2 5/16 ball. never gave me any trouble. but better safe then sorry i suppose

It's fine for what it is, it's just that most owners see the specs on their truck to pull 13.2k and never read the tag on the hitch stating lesser capacities. If they're going to offer a towing package, they should put a hitch under it to equal the truck's stated limits.

I agree with everyone, weight of hitch should equal weight available to pull with truck. I have had a hitch replaced, under warranty, so I kept stock. My safety chain holes were egging out and GM replaced it. I had a ridiculous amount of slop when stopping and starting.

How heavy a trailer were you pulling to cause the slop in the receiver?

Just wondering, as I have towed a 28' Airstream, that weighs about 7,000 pounds, for several thousand miles, and I don't have any deformation yet.
