I currently use a 07 Dodge diesel DRW to pull a 20k GVW gooseneck trailer with a 17.5lb excavavator and 1k lb ram. This truck is just used to pull this trailer. This trailer is towed about 30 miles per week in 2 one way trips.
I want to have a truck to pull this trailer and used to travel around town for work. I use the bed alot and prefer a fleet side truck like my 01 Chevy vortec Xtra cab LB. I use it to pull the other 4 trailers. I am at the point where I need to replace the chevy and want to burn the dodge. So time for a good decision.
I need some advice to see if a 08/09 chevy 2500 Duramax CC LB could handle this load. I really hate the ride of a dually but I do not want to compromise the safety when pulling the gooseneck trailer.
The chevy will pull better and has more hp than a dodge. The allison has NO compairson on the market. You will be completely satisfied I promise.

Well, I owned an 04' Dodge Dually...same exact setup as my current Chevy in my sig. (size wise). Do yourself a favor and test-drive a GM dually...it rides much better than the Dodge, u may get the "best of both" worlds ANd, I also agree on the Allsion comment made above....it really makes all the difference when towing.
PS: leave 300ish pounds of whatever in the Dually bed and they ride MUCH better when not towing.

Reason: PS
After some great advice from Hookem Horns then I think my best route is to go with a older model 05ish 3500 DRW for pulling all my serious weight and go with a 08ish 1500 for all my daily work and tow a small plumbing rig I tow. Then I have 2 trucks with about the same monthly payment as the 07 Dodge in total.
Ahhh...I got about 1500Lbs of weight (tools) in my truck at all times...It rides better than my wife's Expedition all day long PS: Nice choice on the 05' 3500

Any advice will be much appreciated!
Thanks, Jake.
I don't own a dually Jake or have I ever rode in one. But, if you think the word above is anyway at all compromised, you've answered your question.
The new Dmax's are excellent haulers for your needs. Test drive one if ya need!
