maybe a new trailer

Hi

I have a 05 Chev 2500 HD extended cab with I presume the LLY and a 5 speed tranny. I now have an Eagle Superlite 28.5 that I am not particularly happy with. I pull the trailer and hardly even know it's there. The pin weight is approx 1500 lbs and the dry weight is a tad over 8000 lbs. I have been looking at a BigHorn 3050 that has a pin weight of 1950 and a dry weight of 11000 lbs. In your opinion do you think I need bags to help with squatting and handling? Do you think I can pull this trailer and more importantly stop this trailer with the truck I have? It is stock and I would really like to leave it that way if I can. Need opinions.

If dry weight is 11,000, add any dealer add on equipment weight to that. Also figure on about 1000 pds per person when loaded. This unit could easily go 15,000 lbs. You would need air bags with a 2500. Lots of people do pull this much weight with a 2500 but I would not. I'd get a 3500. Much more stable also. Better brakes (trailer brakes can fail).

You'll be fine, I pull 10,000 lbs and it doesn't feel like there's anything back there. I wouldn't hesitate to pull a 15,000 lbs load. I think you'd be hard pressed to load 4,000 lbs into that trailer.

Most people that actually weigh their rv's find they are near or above the max weight rating loaded. Check out rv forums. This is the norm.

I would just put bags on the back and haul it. The difference between the 2500hd and the 3500srw is not very much anyways "GVWR difference is 9200 vs 9900 lbs", i am sure those bags more than make up the 700lb GVWR difference
