| Hi, Iam new to the forum. Just bought a 2003 w/58,000 miles. This is my 1st diesel and love it. I just found out after reading manual that I have overdrive and tow haul mode. I have tried several times pushing the button on the end of the column shifter, but I dont see anything on the dash indicating engagement. I have a hard time finding Park. The original owner told me it needs a Neutral Safety Switch. Could this be related to my OD/Tow mode problem??? Any help would be fantastic Please. Thanks guys! ![]() Seattle, Washington |

| im not sure what to tell you but when you push the button when your at speed it should take off overdrive and shift differently. It should give you a light but not sure on that truck. As for the safety switch, im not sure but do a search and you should find something.

| Tap the shifter button to engage the T/H, showing a dash icon as enabled. Push and 'HOLD' the same button, 'O' is then disabled, showing icon on the dash.

| I have an 06 and have the same problem. The dealer troubleshot it and said the wiring harness between the switch and the steering column came open. A new switch (and harness) will be about $100. including the install. Its on my to do list. I wonder if this is a common problem with those tow/haul controls? Paul

| More then likely the wire has been chewed through. Depending on wher it is you can splice them back toghether a lot cheaper then a new shifter. I did it on mine and works fine easy to do also.

| The tow/haul button wire is probably broken. It is common for that to happen, especially if the wheel is tilted up and down alot. Check the orange wire to make sure it isn't broken, or at the connections.

| Anyone have any instructions on getting to where the wire might be broken? - mine just went out too.

| Thanks Kroggs - any "typical" break location? Also I thought I read somewhere to be careful about accidentally deploying the air bag - anything to be concerned about?
