I sold my 2012 3500hd ltz and am awaiting delivery on my 2015 3500hd ltz. I had the extang encore on my old truck. When towing our fifth wheel I would remove the cover and throw it in the garage. One one occasion I hit the rail left inside the box and bent it. Is there anything I can do? I would really like to get a retrax pro but do not want to damage it.
Shorter pin box or adjust the hitch so it sits higher. You will probably have to also adjust the pin box to sit lower on the trailer to keep everything level if you go that route.
My retrax bedcover has never touched. I may have more room then you have. But we have the mor ryde pin box and it clears with ease. But the retrax rails only stick up and inch above the bed sides . Best cover I ever owned and if I ever go back to a standard pickup. You can bet a new one will be on it also.

I have the Truck Cover USA cover and B&W Companion, I haven't towed yet, but I can't foresee any problems, the rails are only 1/4" max above the truck rails. The canister next to cab is max 3/4" above rails.
Just to clarify I was not having troubles with it hitting the top of the rails of the truck. Its the inside of the rails. On the extang encore there is a bracket on each side of the rail that runs vertically that I was hitting. I know that with the retrax pro there will be the same type of setup for the roll top the slid on.
As a result of the ever increasing bed height of today's trucks it generally becomes necessary to set the hitch fairly low to avoid towing nose high. The result is often the hitting of the inside of the bed rails by the pin box. The original factory pin box on my current FW would have done just that when moving forward and locking the steering wheel in a turn. As previously suggested the only way to tow level and avoid turning contact was to go with a shorter pin box.
