Aftermarket Brake controller

I have a Reese trailer brake controller from my 2005 Gas Silverado 2500HD that I just traded in and purchased an 08 Diesel 2500HD. Well, come to find out the plugs don't match. I went to all the Auto parts stores around, as well as the U-haul and auto electrical businesses in the area. No one sells anything to do with them. I was also told by the guy at Advance Auto that he can't even order hitches for them. He said as far as he knew, you had to order a new one from the dealer. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't fancy pulling my ~9000lb trailor around with no trailer brakes.

Just got off the phone with Chevy and got the same freaking answer. They said if it is an aftermarket controller, than go to the place you bought it from, which I did and they said they don't have it and won't be able to get it. Man this is frustrating!!! Why would they not make something that the flippin truck is designed for?!?!?!?!?!?! So do I have to spend money on GM to install a factory one?

Try some searching online. I know there is a company out there that sells the plug for the box by the brake pedal. You just might have to do some hard wiring. I don't know how Reese is set up but I know on my brake controller, I just had to switch a wire around and it worked fine.

After some playing, they have the wires just looped and taped up on the box by the steering column. So I have to hard wire it, but the brake controller I had would not work with it, plus the person that wired it before did a HORRIBLE wire job. So I called around and one of the auto places got a controller in today, I bought it, but it said nowhere on the package that it was for an 08. I tried to hook it up, and nothing, no light, no numbers, NOTHING. Man this is aggrivating. I called their help line, but unfortuanetly they were closed.....guess I am gonna be pulling another day without trailer brakes.

This might sound stupid but there are 2 stores on ebay that I have used and those guys know what they are takling about. Check their online stores or email them they will be able to help, search under brake controllers they will come up. One is called rvonline I think but cant remember. Go with tenonksa(spelling) currently they are most up to date.

Well, I called the help line again today and they told me the color combination of the wiring. Well, I did that, and STILL nothing. So I called them back and they had me hook up a test line to the battery cable, the light came on. He told me to pop the hood and take off the lid to the fuse box. There is a silver and black stud sitting on the front. The battery cable that feeds power to the brake controller is not hooked up. GM just wraps it around some conduit(spelling) and electrical tapes it there. So all in all, they are finally working today......thankfully

Thanks for the link. I knew nothing about the other wire needing to be attatched to the silver stud, stud #2. I will see if mine has that wire hiding and hook it up as well. I didn't like the installation area under the dash. It felt too close to my feet and being 6'4" I need all the leg room I can get. I chose to mount my on the right on the center console down by by the pedals. Hopefully I can get some pics of it today and post it.
