Why does the 08 Crew cab, standard box 4x4 have a 1600 pound lower 5th wheel tow rating compared to the 2x4 when the weight of the 4x4 is only 241 pounds heavier. The 4x4 has the same GCVWR (22000 lbs) as the 2x4 so this does not make sense. I posted this once and got little response, so trying again.
I need help because my Ford friends are giving me crap - the Ford 4x4 does not have any drop in tow rating compared to the 2x4.

Reason: I shouldn't have used the "F" word (Ford) in my title
If the 2x4 is a long bed it will be rated more because it will equal out better. If its short bed with same cab configuration they should be the same. I really dont pay attention to toy ratings i just load it up and hall it.

By the way it does make a difference with FORD! I was a GM with a Ford dealership and the 4x2 was always rated more than the 4x4!!!!! Just like someone else metioned make sure they are comparing Apples to Apples. Also, if they want to talk to someone that has converted to the dark side from Ford; I would love to share my expierences. One reason I left a great paying job and what I thought was a secure future is I lost complete confidence in my product... now that sucks when that happens!!!!!!
My brother-in-law is die hard Ford and always talking smack. He's got a dump with the v-10 and I took him for a ride, his jaw is still in his lap. Does the Ford have I beam front end? Oh wait they got rid of that a couple of years ago.

Funny thing about those Ford guys, they all talk smack until they get in a Duramax and get SMACKED in the face! You can see what I pull, and I have never found a Dodge or Ford I couldn't pass on the hill. That's not to say that there isn't one out there that has been really worked, but I haven't found it yet! You have the mussel-put it to the test. Paper will sit still for anything and they are towing recommendations, not what the vehicle is actually cabable off. You don't need any help, your help is your own truck! Confedence!!!!
Ford does still have the Twin I Beam, however only on 4x2 models. The 4x4 models have a solid front axle with Coil over a Shock type system. The Fords do turn very sharp, but they still have a flippin International piece of JUNK!!!!!!
Yeah they just messed it up when they decided to change from the 7.3s,I used to drive all FORD company vehicles and they WERE tough.Leave it to FERD to screw up a good thing.Yes I do OWN and drive an LBZ,am a die hard chevy fan, just thought i'd mention in my younger years I beat the boss's 11 trucks a new a$$,and I still couldn't kill em.Busted 2 manual transmissions and cracked 3 sets of rear spider gears, sorry for ramblin but I never could kill a 7.3 no matter how hard I wanted to!! All this applies to older stuff and I have not sat behind the wheel of a ford in years,THANK GOD!!!
