On my 05' Silverado I could plug my toy hauler trailer into the truck to start my generator up if the trailer batts were dead. With my new 08' I can plug the trailer into the truck and all the tail lights, interior lights and blinkers work, but it will not allow me to start my generator. Anybody else have this problem?
When I bought my truck I took it over to my buddies house. He helped me wire in my gauges. While the we were in the fuse panel he said hey do you want me to wire the trailer plug so it will charge. I told him sure!
So he had to add a fuse into a blank spot under the fuse box under the hood. Im not sure where it went to but heres a pic. Its the brown wires with a big fuse.

Didd you get the wiring pigtail from the fectory with your truck??? If you did there is a fuse attached to it that goes in your fuse block that alowes for a charge wire.
Tow Master: not too sure about your brown wires but at the top of your pic where you can see the remainder of a sticker is where the charge fuse is installed.
Unless yours is different from all the ones I-ve seen.

I had the same problem today. Picked up my new Cargo trailer today and there is no power going to the interior lights. What's up with this?? Why don't they have it wired from the fuse box?? Is this a factory screw up or is this how they come? I'm driving an 2008 HD Duramax. All exterior lights work fine.
They come from the factory this way... I was told a long time ago it was this way because if they put it in from the factory they would be responsible every time someone left something on drawing power from the truck battery and could leave you with a dead battery.
I have accidentaly left the lights on in my travel trailer for quite some time but they did not drain the battery. But then again the trailer has it's own battery system. The truck does do a good job of charging the trailer batterys as you go down the road though.

I just did mine on an O6. It is the top left maxi fuse in the fuse box under the hood on the drivers side wheel well. It takes a 40 amp maxifuse. It will have a dummy piece of plastic in the socket. Just pop it out and pop the new fuse in.

Love this truck....HATE the fuel economy yea yea, I know it's a truck, and YES I want the same mpg as a Civic
So from what I am reading, am I to assume that my 07.5 duramax is not charging my trailer battery with the trailer hooked up? I haven't been in the fuse box to check if I have a fuse or not. Which one would I look for?
One question I have (directed at 2005 trucks) is there a relay or something that will prevent you from draining the truck batteries if using the hot wire at the 7 pin? Also do you need a battery isolator to charge with?
