factory trailer brake controller problem

I am having trouble with my factory brake controller. I was not getting any responses out of it when i plug a trailer in or when I push any of the buttons. When I plugged the tech 2 in it is telling me that the trailer brake controller is disabled. Whats up with that? I couldnt find an option to enable it. we tried reprogramming it and that didnt change anything. I checked the fuses. I noticed there is a round plug hanging down inder my dash with a single flat pin in the middle about an inch in diameter, should that be plugged in somewhere? It has not worked since I got the truck 3 weeks ago and it really sucked today hauling 15k of lumber without trailer brakes!

You do know that you have to have the ignition switch OFF when you plug in the trailer-- then when you start the engine, it will recognize the trailer. Other than that, check the fuses under the hood.

Others may have ideas.

It doesn't on mine, I just connect the trailer, the truck makes a "beep" sound and then says "Trailer Connected" then changes to the trailer brake controller screen on the dash...

still no luck on figuring this out. how hard is it to take the factory controller out and add a differant aftermarket one and which one would be the best. I pull a large gooseneck weighting 15-18k.

My brake controler would come up with errors if I had a trailer connected with brakes on it. No trailer brakes, no problem. Dealer swore it was my trailer brakes so rewired them (need to be done anyway) with no lick. Dealer finally found bad ground from brake controller to body. May want to check that out.

If you are talking' about the Integrated Trailer Brake Controller, attached is a document I put together explaining it's several components and circuits.

Getting it to work the first time, can be a real PITA, if you don't have this info. Been there.
