more trailer brake problems

Hello Duramax land,

I have been reading everybodys problems on trailer brakes, and they have been very helpfull. But I am stumped on this one. My brake contoller does not have any power to it. I think it is a fuse, but have not found one to replace. All of the wires in the recepticle underneath the steering wheel are dead except for one that is an empty slot. I have looked underneath the fuse box under the hood, but got lost in all the wires, so ??? The trailer has lights so I am pretty certain this is where the problem is.

04 dmax.
Thanks for the help.
Sam

I just called the parts guy at my dealership and asked to buy a brake controller and he said I would need a fuse so I assume that empty slot should have a fuse!!! Good luck (maybe call a dealer too)

Check the corners of the fuse panel over the driver's side fender. Looking at the cover on my 02' the top outside corners are for the +12VDC to the trailer plug for charging the trailer, and the other corner will be the power for the brake controller. I had to purchase and install these myself on my 99' 1500, but that one had not pulled anything needing brakes before I got to it. My current rig has my fifthwheel hooked to it the first time I pulled into my driveway.

I am assuming you are using the stock cable from the bulkhead to the controller? That should have power all the time. My controller won't light up until I have a trailer hooked up.

Underneath the fuse box is another fuse that had blown, now everything works fine. I have pulled a dozen trailers not needing brakes, because the transmission makes it so nice, but this weekend I am putting on quite a load, and needed them to work. the DOT cops around here like to pick on three quarter ton truck owners pulling more than they should.

Thanks for the help
