Also, wasn't the "test" truck EXCEEDING it's MAX load capability?
I think there is allot more to this story than is being presented by the slanderous video.......
It was under the GM published weight allowances.
There is a lot more to the story. He says he used this video to win a court settlement after he grenaded his truck intentionally overheating it.
I am guessing he didn't testify that he intentionally overheated repeatedly using a brake induced load, in order to try to find the cause of the overheat. My guess is that there was no court action at all, a lie.
I got a 01 DMax 3500 & am pulling 19,600.Ive had it up to 90-95 out in Wyoming & stil had some left.Gotta be a serious problem in it somewere.I would have paseed that Dodge with no trouble at all.My total weight pulling is 26,400 truck & trailer.Never have touched the truck since new in 01.All stock. My truck has never bene in the shop for any repairs whatsoever since I got it new in 01.Ive passed a lot of Fords & Dodges going up the Mtns.Never had a heat problem with it either even down in Texas were its bene 108 pulling.
If you are supposed to believe none of what you hear, and only half of what you see, this surely falls in the 50% to not believe. Several things noticed:
1. The loads were of unequal weight and aerodynamics.
2. The U-Haul was loaded backwards on the trailer, and well to the rear. This is an incredible aerodynamic disadvantage.
3. Engine RPM was maintained at 3000+, well above the DMAX power curve.
4. On the uphill sections when the speed of both vehicles decreased, the DMAX would catch up, and lost ground on the downhill sections when top speed increased. Aerodynamic drag increases exponentially with an increase in speed.
If this guy doesn't have any better sense than to figure this out, how can you expect him to recognize a good truck when he sees one. The weight was not the problem. I have pulled a skytrak 6034 (17.6k lbs) and 32 ft. Legend Gooseneck (7k lbs) (25k+ total) with a SRW 3500, 350 ci., 5 spd manual, and pulled it faster than a 12k lb trailer that had the aerodynamics of a brick just like the backwards U-Haul. I'd put my '07 DMAX (stock) up against any CDT (stock), but lets cut the bull, and use the same load.

I have had no OH problems with my LLY. Maybe because I have a ZF 6-Speed? The tranny fluid in the Allisons gets really hot when hauling, which could put stress on the cooling system of the Duramax....just a thought. I have hauled my 11,000+ lb. travel trailer coast to coast with many different grades and it never gets above 210 degrees with me pushing it hard while watching my EGT's. I don't wish these problems on anyone else though. Any thoughts anyone?

maybe the name on the truck isn't the problem. maybe it's the mech's and the dealers trying to make every dime the can on the repairs. friday my 2003 6.0 superduty found a new home because not of the name ford, but because of a list of repairs way to long to list. the last 0ver 6500. truck had 96000 mile but had passed the 5 year mark. so the cost was on my head. after listening to a friend that passed my truck on every hill and every breakdown( even towed my truck to dealer once with his duramax) i checked out a few duramax forums and found the list of complaints minor compared to the ford forums. after driving this truck the light shined brightly and now it's working on my farm. already haul my 5th wheel trailer loaded with a load of horses(8) and what can i say but, I LOVE THIS TRUCK..
Funny....it's no different here, or any other Duramax Forum, or a Powerstroke forum, and all Dodge forums.
So, so, SO true.........

His name is Christopher Shull. He has been trying to remedy overheating on LLY's, and despite burning up his own truck in test loads like this, he still can't figure out why they overheat.
He runs a self-honoring web site with a bunch of followers. Reminds me of Jim Jones.
Hell yeeaaahhhh I am laughing my a$$ off at this one!!!!!

I haven't read through each & every post in this thread but the few I have read through I have a good idea of what the deal is here, & maybe someone already said this but, you all remember the old saying "Don't discuss politics or religion". I think they may have to add truck manufactures to the saying.
