I installed 5 inch MBRP turbo back exhaust about 1 year (12,000 miles) ever since then my tranny gets pretty warm whenever I tow or have a load the front pipe is only about a quarter inch away from coolant lines. so I decided to pull the pipe and wrap it in DEI
titanium exhaust wrap to see if that would help with my problem. in the process of doing that I've realized that the tab that is on the downpipe that mounts to the up pipe for support was broke off leaving a 1 inch by 3/8 inch hole in my downpipe just kind of wondering if anyone has had these problems and opinions if you think the exhaust wrap may fix my transmission overheating (highest ever seen was 196°) problem
it's just the alarm on the edge goes all at 180°. but thanks I knew that it could get above 200 just I didn't know by how much. but it still concerns me a little I don't think it should be getting that hot daily drive its at 145 140. I was only towing like a 4000 pound trailer when it got up to almost 200. and does anyone have an idea what could have caused that tab to break off my aftermarket downpipe ( I just removed it and filled in the hole)
As for the down pipe issue, that is just crappy manufacturing. I can't even hook my tab up because the up-pipes have had the shields removed. I would try to zip-tie the trans lines out of the way and add more wrap, or look into flushing the system (maybe a partial blockage), or an aftermarket trans cooler if you are that worried about it.
I never thought of having a partial blockage good idea thanks. yeah I have thought about an after market trans cooler and a deep pan. I plan on getting a built trans 1 day and kinda wanted just to do all that at the same time! just got the truck back together last night. I'll find out how she acts this weekend I'm towing my buddies 6.0 to north carolina. if she acts right Egr delete and transgo jr. are my next mods.
Another good, very easy upgrade is Synthetic fluid, whether it's Allison Transynd, Amsoil, etc.. , the synthetic fluid is quite a bit more tolerant of heat, lubricates better and lasts longer.
Heat wise, you need about 280-300f to cook synthetic trans fluid -vs- approx. 230f for conventional.

I was under the impression that even the dexron VI (used from factory) was a synthetic fluid and only synthetic fluid should be used in an allison tranny. Please correct me if I am wrong. I only mention this because I just picked up a few quarts of Dec VI to refill trans when I change out the darn leaky gm trans cooling lines and hope I bought the right stuff.
Also check your radiators out I cleaned mine out yesterday and it wasn't the trans cooler it was the inter cooler was full of bugs I saw a drop across the board it dropped my trans towing temp to near 185 from a solid 200. Just a thought
well my truck did absolutely amazing the trans never got about 178° and that was in heavy traffic over 700 miles total trip with my buddy 6.0 on the trailer the whole time. very happy with the way it towed.
the only thing I can bitch about is 10.5 mpg on average.
