Allison Transmission Horsepower Limit

I was wondering how much horsepower (and torque) the stock Allison can handle, is 150 - 200 horsepower over stock too much? A lot of guys on this site have their chips at a higher level but don't mention any tranny upgrades. What HP are some of you running at with stock tranny's?

you have to remember that PPE is rated at the flywheel IIRC....but it still is a big jump in power either way. As far as the 5 speed allison which is what the 2005 has, about 90 hp over stock is the max safe limit. Will your tranny hold more???probably but for how long, who knows? If you want to keep your truck dependable without having to rebuild the tranny, keep it to about 90 hp over stock (that is about 160-180 lb/ft of torque over stock)

I wouldn't go over 90HP. I've heard of guys frying their trannies with just a tow tune and then I've heard of guys running around with 500RWHP on the stock tranny and it holding together. It just depends on how you beat on it.

You go over 100-120HP and you will get your check book out if you are going to play it will cost you ...not as much as you guys have been told but without the right set up you will pay big time I am just here to help you money is tight so i would hate to see anyone blow up a unit that did have to. Again I am just telling you straight that's all I can do. I believe ..be straight with your customers and you will not have an issue
