Allison slams into first
This is my first post. I have a 01 2500hd 4x4 with approx 186000 miles. I got the truck from my father I law who passed. I don't know too much of the history.so anyways, there has been multiple times when driving that when I stop it seemed to "lunge" maybee like slamming into 1st gear. Other than that all seemed fine. Developed a front pump seal leak so took it in to get fixed. Forgot to mention the problem with the tranny shop cause it didn't happen a lot. So they replaced seals gaskets torque converter. They said everything look in great shape pan was really clean. So after a couple of weeks while stopped on a hill when I tried to go it seemed like the tranny may have been slipping then slammed into first started driving and all was fine. Happened a week later on the same spot. Now it kinda feels like sometimes when I start driving it feels like I start in 2nd gear. Any thoughts.

The surge when braking - when you are almost completely stopped, is normal. The Allison downshifts when your foot is off the pedal for a little while. It took me a while to get used to this. The other problem you described happens to me when driving in city traffic. The Allison doesn't seem to handle rapid movements back and forth between the two pedals.

It is at the back of trans, passenger side just above the pan.
