I'm having some issue's with my Allison trans in an 04' GMC 2500HD, 6.6l turbo. First off sometimes when I come to a complete stop there will be a bumping feel, and again as soon as I let off the break to go again. I read some stuff that makes me believe it could be in the drive shaft. However, I recently noticed trans fluid around the rear "controls" or where the electrical plugs are located. I took it in, and they told me its in the beginning stages of going out. The guy at the shop told me he got five codes, but I've yet to get a single warning light. They removed the pan, and it appeared to be dirt in it. To me it looked like dirty trans oil, they said it is "clutch material". I became skeptical of the alleged claim that they had five codes from the trans, because I have not had the first check engine light. It used to run in the 140-160 temp range, but now it gets up to around 200 without working it very hard. I had them change both filters, refill it, and I got it back. I was still able to get it up to 190 temp, in the 200 range it doesn't seem to shift quite as smooth as it does in the 140-160 range. I know there is probably something up with it, but these guys wanted to charge $3500-$4500 for a rebuild. I know something might not be quite right, but it doesn't feel like a $3500+ repair.
Its an allison, Buy a suncoast stage 3 kit and be done with it. Its going to be expensive either way.

I would assume that you are also of the opinion that its time for a rebuild? My bro has a friend who owns a transmission shop, he said he's never had to rebuild an allison.
Never had to rebuild a Allison??? Ive gone through 3 Allisons trans. Doesnt take much to wear them out.
Suncoast stage 3 is a rebuild kit. Suncoast is having issues with converters now, look for another option IMO. A friend of mine on this sight just had a 1058 bite the dust a couple days ago.
Your trans is toast. Get it fixed soon or you will be stranded.
Built trans is around $4000-$4500 installed and out the door. Depends on who does it.

Where are you located? My transmission is just being completed from an Authorized Allison rebuild center (So Cal) Total price is $2,500 complete which includes removing and re-installing the trans.

I'm in Lafayette La, I called the Allison repair center which isn't far. They said all trans work on pick-ups had to be done at the dealership. I will call Allison directly tomorrow to see if they have any more insight on repairs.
I guess it depends on the center....In my area (Riverside, CA) the Allison Service Center works on mostly commercial accounts, but if you bring your vehicle to them they will work on your vehicle.

It may be time for a rebuild and if your going to do it ask your buddy how much he would do it for if you supply the parts and TC. Then just buy a TC and Perfomance 3 kit and be done with it for about the the same price in the end but far better results than a stock rebuild.

I pick the truck up next week, My buddy had his trucks transmisson rebuilt a couple of years ago without any problems. I'm not going crazy on HP upgrades, so the stock rebuild with a TC upgrade hopefully will be good....Either way the shop will give me a guarantee the trans for at least 3 years.
