Spin on Filter

Is the Allison filter and the GM factory filter the same except for the magnet? If so why doesn't the Alison filter come with one?

The filters are basically the same-- except the dealer will charge 3 times what the Allison dealer charge. Both work fine.

NONE of the filters come with a magnet-- you will have to remove the old one and install it on the new filter. If for some reason yours does not have one-- you should purchase one.

Most filters do not come with magnets. We are supposed to remove, clean, and replace the existing magnet.

I changed the filter on my Brother in laws truck a couple of weeks ago and the magnet was gone. Where in the heck do you get one?

Chevy or Allison dealer both have them. I don't think any of our site sponsors carry them. You can also get them cheap online Allison Spin on Filter Magnet

i suppose because it is just easier and cheaper to clean and reuse the magnet. I had my dealer do mine and they forgot to put it back on. I went and told them that they owed me a magnet and they looked at me stupid. So i had them look it up and order me one. When i picked it up, they said they would put it on...I said no need..I will do it myself that way i know it's done right.

The dealer here want's $44 for a filter.The price difference is incredible. I try not to take my truck to the dealer anymore than I have too.

Yeah. I initially had them do a tranny service while it was still under warranty. I havent taken it back since then for service...only for waterpumps. They asked me if i wanted them to do the 60,000 mile service the last time i was in there...i told them no not for over $900 (that's what they would have charged me).
