Hey everyone been lurking for awhile but this is my first post. Recently my trans temp gauge has been stuck at about 200 degrees when I shut the truck off or when it's cold. When I drive it moves up about a quarter of an inch which would be normal 125-150 degrees if it had been sitting at the 100 mark as it should when it's cold or when you shut it off so it appears it's still working.
With some snow in the northeast yesterday and using 4wd i noticed it was getting to 250.
Now after sitting all night in the cold it's stuck at 250 and creeping up on 300 degrees when I drive it. I just got home from a short drive on the highway and it's now at 260 with the truck shut off. Basically it's going up as the tranny heats up and not coming all the way back down.
Fluid level is normal it does have your typical leaking trans cooler lines but they aren't leaking to bad and I've been adding as needed (not even a quart in the last 8 months) just hit 100k miles so I'll be replacing those and having my mechanic do a complete flush the trans soon.
But my main concern is if the gauge does hit 275-300 will the truck force me to shut it down and leave me stranded? since it really isn't a matter of letting it cool down. Anyone else ever have this happen? My searches on this forum and others have yielded nothing that matches this problem.
Thanks
