I would like to know benefits vs disadvantages on what to use. I used Transyn before but switched to 5W synthetic after I read that ATF may not be as good to use.

ATF is known to vaporize in these hot transfer cases. We have seen many, many trucks come in here with little to no fluid in them with no sign of a leak. It seems that not many people are checking their levels when they service their trucks. Using the synthetic motor oil will have less tendancy to vaporize and will lubricate better. It is somewhat of a safeguard for people that don't check the TC fluid levels.
If you check your TC fluid on a regualar basis you won't need it.
Believing everything GM tells you is stupid. They are the ones that put Dex 6 out there without testing it. Two years later they find out it is not compatible with the 5 speed seals and it solidifies at -40F plugging the cooler lines with frozen fluid and cooking the Alli so bad they can no longer be rebuilt.
Be carefull which KoolAid you drink. I've heard it tastes salty.

Really, You are arguing "what do I know" against Mike when it comes to this stuff? Come on I know you're smarter than that....
He has been doing this a lot longer than you and I put together....

I run 3 quarts of Synthitc Motor oil 5w-30 in my T-case. You will have to fill through the speed sensor hole to do this though.

I have a very smart buddy when it comes to theses things, and he never once checked t-case fluid, cared to check it, or cared what fluid to use and he never had one single issue in the 6 years of owning that truck, and he abused it pretty good.

It was a 2wd though : )
